Completed Taking it easy in 1/19th scale

This is another Brit navvy finished a month or so back. I've made this same basic figure twice before, once in 1/32 and once in 1/48 scale. The first two had sweaters instead if shirts and waist coats like this one. Unfortunately I don't have pictures of the 1/32 scale version but the one...

Nicely done, when do we get to see the box art? Ray

    Completed Additional Large Scale Fun

Len, This was an interesting pose being a one-off allowed more creativity than I usually experience with figures that are to be cast and made for a wider market. Thanks Jamie, It is nice to be back, I had a lot of down time last year that couldn't be prevented so there is a lot of catching up...

    Completed First Large Scale Figure

Thanks Len, I'm glad you like it, more to come. Yes, Jamie it does take a lot of thought switching between scales. I wonder what it's going to be like when I switch back to 1/48 scale figures. I found before when going between 1/48 and 1/32 that switching benefitted work in both sizes so...

    Completed Artillery

Dan, The question is, do you have scale drawings of the thing or can you get them? Can't be done otherwise. Ray

    Completed Additional Large Scale Fun

This figure is my second or third 90mm figure, I don't remember which now, and one of the commissions that started me on this trek. The odd bit of wood sculpture he is posed on is a representation of the cab of an obscure Australian (used by the Australian army in Borneo, I think, during WW 2...

    Completed First Large Scale Figure

Thanks Gordy, Surprisingly to me I enjoyed the first so much that I've managed to complete several more large scale figures since starting in December. Yes, absolutely the SBS's are worth the effort, especially for those of us that benefit from them, learning new techniques and ideas. More...

    Completed First Large Scale Figure

Ian, James, Dan and Marcel, Thank you guys I really appreciate your noticing and comments. Having one’s peers notice your work is perhaps one of the best incentives for keeping at it. Generally I didn't find the move up to be very traumatic, there was a great deal more trauma in considering...

    Storm from X-men.

Alfonso, This is truly a beautiful figure. I can't say that I'm too taken with genre' but the subject matter is a favorite and you've done an amazing job depicting it-female figures being so difficult to do convincingly. Ray

    Completed First Large Scale Figure

Carl, Thank you for looking and the compliment. No he's no-one special really just some un-named navvy from a British railway book, I don't even remember which one. Thanks Garry, It really was a challenge developing a feel for things in this large size, especially things like drapery. I...

    Completed First Large Scale Figure

This one is my first large scale (1/19 scale ~90mm) figure made last December as a practice piece before attempting a couple one-off commissions in the same scale. Besides being larger in scale than any other figure I had previously done I had nothing to start the figure with, so the first step...

    WIP Gun

Hello Gary, Was it either of these you were looking for? If so I'm sorry that the pictures are no longer availible in the first thread they were removed when I quit my kitpics membership. I wonder if they are still availible there if I were to sign back on for a time? Ray...

    Making buttons and buckles

Gordy, I hope I'm not teaching anyone's grandmother stuff about eggs but, the sharpened tube is great for making domed buttons without the flat rim. The flat rim is only made with a flattened tube end that hasn't had the walls thinned. I neglected to mention the simple domed buttons being hung...

    Making buttons and buckles

My two cents: Making buttons and buckles Guys, just thought this might be of interest. To make buttons with a domes center, concave or convex us the method outline in previous responses to punch out buttons from foil-preferably lead-but with a piece of brass tube. The result will be buttons...

    Tigar 1991

Darko, There doesn't appear to be enough hair on either his head or chin. The photo shows a pretty full beard on the chin. You could probably fix up what you've already done by simply adding some bulk to it and maybe making the beard a little longer. The casing does look good too. Ray

    Horsetail ferns

Spike, Would the bottle brush method used for making pine trees in small scales work? There are some how toos on the net somewhere though I don't know where, probably something like "how to make scale model pine trees" in google would net something useful. Ray

Very cool Ian I'm looking forward to seeing it finished up and painted if it isn't to be an advert for Fosters. Ray

    Green stuff Putty

GS source My last several orders were purchased at this site. I haven't seen GS locally for a couple decades now though Ace Hardware used to carry it. Ace may still have it in stock but we don't live near one so I haven't checked...

    Some Old Stuff For Roger

Thanks for looking Roger. Although I was quite proud of these figures when they were new I'm not quite so pleased with them now. However, I accept them as they are being very early figures for me. Oddly interesting uniform blouse I thought. I don't recall now how long the thing was in...

    Some Old Stuff For Roger

These are shots of some of my early figures from the old CIV Miniatures range I promised to share with Roger Newsome a few weeks ago. The first is a 1/32 scale US Cavalry man from the early 1870's in Swiss blouse which wasn't a very popular item of equipment and didn't last long at all...
