    Troop54 New Release

Just ordered a copy for my own workbench. Can hardly wait for it to get here.

    Knight of Jerusalem

Hi Terry, it was pricey, but sometimes you see a figure that just worms its way into your brain and over rides that part that controls the finances (that's usually the time when my wife steps in). Maybe you'll get there some time, or maybe your patience will be rewarded with a great bargain. In...

    Knight of Jerusalem

Thanks gents, it's a beautiful figure no matter what colour scheme you choose.

WIP Critique Imperial Russian Officer 1914

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your kind encouragement. I actually bought this figure and the Prussian Officer from Miniature Fortes at the same time a few years ago (at Chicago MMSI if memory serves) and I had equally unsatisfying results the first time I tried painting them. The Prussian...

    Knight of Jerusalem

This 90mm Pegaso figure has been on my wish list for a very long time. I finally bit the bullet and picked one up a few months ago. I was inspired by the movie “Kingdom of Heaven” for the colour scheme.

WIP Critique Imperial Russian Officer 1914

Had this 75mm figure half painted and sitting on the shelf for about three years, and finally took it down, stripped the paint and restarted it a few ago. I'm much happier with the result as it stands today than I was with the original effort. Just need to base him up and do some ground work.

Thank you very much Neal and Ken, I appreciate your kind words.

    Thirty Years War Vignette

I actually didn't use oils on the metallics Steve. I used Vallejo Black as an undercoat. Then used Vallejo Grey Black and Silver, in a couple of coats gradually increasing the amount of silver in the mix until I achieved a more or less even coat with more silver on the highlight areas. The final...

    Thirty Years War Vignette

I use Vallejo acrylics as an undercoat Tony. The drummer for example: I painted his trousers (after priming of course) with Vallejo Cavalry Brown 70892, and after letting it dry thoroughly, applied Windsor & Newton Artists oil - Scarlet and Lamp Black for the shadows, and Scarlet for the...

Thanks Steve. Oil is the only way to go! ;)

    Thirty Years War Vignette

Thanks Terry, I found these figures to be exceptional. Little to no clean up aside from the inevitable mould line here and there, the fit was perfect and the pose and sculpting quality speaks for itself. It took a little while for them to arrive from Russia, but was worth the wait.

    Thirty Years War Vignette

Thanks Nap, the drummer was painted according to some ECW reenactor pictures I found and the drum pattern was a fairly common one I saw in my searches. I suppose they could have been English Civil War, but wasn't sure about the uniform accuracy.

    Thirty Years War Vignette

Thanks Tony. I saw they had a second groping of figures from the same period and scale, but in "action" poses that I thought would make for a pretty dramatic little vignette. Again, so many ideas, so little cash!

    Thirty Years War Vignette

Thanks Derek, glad you like them. The Avanpost range has at least two others that would have gone nicely with these three, but budgetary limits prevailed.
