    Castle Miniatures Napoleon.

Great job Neal! Textures on the horse are spot on and I love the face of Napoleon here. A great portrait!

Open Book Figure Painting Techniques by Kirill Kanaev - AK Interactive publications

This just arrived in the mail this morning, less than a week after I ordered it directly from AK Interactive in Spain. After leafing through it, I need to add my voice to those who have already endorsed this book, and give many, many thumbs up. While some may be put off at the price, let me...

    Mon Amis, Alexaandros Models 75mm

Just finished this excellent little vignette this afternoon, in fact the musket is still drying so that I can handle it to glue it in place. After years of trying to take even passable photos, I took these pictures using my iphone and making use of the under cabinet lighting in our kitchen...

French Hussar 1796 New release from Troop54

With Christmas just around the corner, I decided to ask for forgiveness instead of permission and ordered mine yesterday. Looking forward to getting paint on this one.

Officer of the Newfoundland Frontiersman, 1914

Thanks Steve. I also enjoyed doing the research on this one, because it's such an obscure subject. Maybe that's the old history teacher in me coming to the fore front.

Officer of the Newfoundland Frontiersman, 1914

Thanks Scott, Mobo and Nap. I'm very happy to have brought some attention to the service of the people of Newfoundland. That area didn't become a province of Canada until 1949, so they were technically rendering service to the British Empire at that time. But their story is all the more...

Officer of the Newfoundland Frontiersman, 1914

Thanks Derek! I think there's a lot of interesting stories out there just waiting to be told.

Officer of the Newfoundland Frontiersman, 1914

Thanks Steve. Off beat might be an understatement here. I would be floored if there is another figure of a Legion of Frontiersman member out there. Most people in Canada aren't aware the organization even existed, so I can't imagine folks outside of Canada would know about them.

Officer of the Newfoundland Frontiersman, 1914

This is my finished heavy conversion project which portrays an officer of the Legion of Frontiersmen, Newfoundland in 1914 just as these men were being incorporated into the Newfoundland Regiment at the out break of the Great War. I offered a more detailed historic explanation of who these men...

    Newfoundland Legion of Frontiersmen

Painting is all done, so I took a few pictures with my iphone. Once I have the ground work done I'll try to take some better pictures with my camera and post under the "finished" forum .

    Newfoundland Legion of Frontiersmen

Thanks to everyone for their encouragement. I am pleased to say that the hard part for me is now completed, and the figure is primed up and ready for paint. I hope to get a start on that this afternoon.

    Newfoundland Legion of Frontiersmen

I have finished the sculpting process. I just need to allow the putty to set up and dry so that I can do a little bit of clean up, and then I will be able to prime the figure prior to painting.

    Newfoundland Legion of Frontiersmen

Today's progress. I've added the officer's sash, which would most likely have been the standard British red officer's sash. Although my friend and proud Newfoundlander, Ray Welshman has done a tremendous amount of research on the Newfoundland Frontiersmen, and many of them were actually Irish...

    Newfoundland Legion of Frontiersmen

In the late 19th century in Canada, there existed a paramilitary organization called the Legion of Frontiersmen. It was an organization that would have been very much like the militia, or part time soldiers, but weren't necessarily soldiers in the strictest sense of the term. (I've heard them...

    Black Watch at Waterloo

here's an alternate photo taken by my friend Rick Taylor, last time we met up for a coffee and figure chat. He took it with his cellphone! I'll leave it to you to decide if this is a better representation.

    Black Watch at Waterloo

Hi Steve, between my complete inability to take even a passable photograph, and the fact that I do not paint with photography in mind, my figures rarely look better in picture when compared to the real thing. I usually just take the picture, cringe and then post.
