Here's what I do.... First I decide on the base and type of post I'll use to mount the bust. I use my bench top drill press to drill the base to accept the post but don't fix the post yet. The using the drill press, I drill an oversized hole in the underside of the bust. Not safe but I just hold...

I like using unscented hand lotion. Smooths out my Aves without making those little putty balls I'd get using water.

Beautiful execution of this bust. I'm a big fan of the more realistic looking style of painting and this is a great example of such.
