Hey, all -

I just received a Young Miniatures 1/10 bust YM1824 US Paratrooper, 82nd AB, Normandy 1944. Beautiful casting! Looking ahead (waay ahead), I can't for the life of me imagine painting the unit patch on the shoulder, much less the American flag on the other shoulder. Surely someone makes decal or PE patches for common applications like that; any tips?

Any help will be appreciated! :)

Hi Russ

Have a look at Historex website , I have seen PE sone where but you'd still have to paint

Not sure if Archer transfers do a set ?

Have a go at painting the patches ..you coukd be surprised

Maybe try printing them out on paper Russ if you are desperate? (Using PVA will help soften it enough to form it a bit)

Personally I'd agree with Nap, have a go at painting - giving the impression using paint even with irregularities will look better IMO than something 'perfect' added on:)

Cheers

Ok. You talked me into it. I'll try painting the patches. I mean, what's the worst that can happen? I strip it off and start over? It's a hobby, right? ;)

Seriously, though, the thought of those 48 itty-bitty stars leaves me a bit cold. Any hints/tips on how to do those in this scale?

And here the patch - in 1:6

You'll have to cut them off a bit at the edge.

Or you just take the "AA" and paint the background red, then it should fit!

Thanks, Martin. On the flags, the WWII-era, 48-star version is more appropriate for the bust.

I used Archer Dry Transfer US 50-star flag 1/35th scale to put on the shoulder of a Young Miniatures 1/10 Scale Firefighter. I will attempt to attach a photo. It had 4 different sizes. They also have a US 48-star flag ARF 35141. I have never used dry transfers before so my result was just OK.

You can get sheets of A4 plain decal paper and print out your own at home.
You would need to paint a white patch first if there's white on the insignia,
which prints as blank.on the decal, you then seal with matt varnish.
