Last year I was asked if I could help model a couple of oarsmen for someone making a 1/15 scale launch (https://www.planetfigure.com/threads/side-of-hms-victorys-launch-1-16.444155/#post-1250116). The problem as a stand alone model was that it would require a lot of side space unless the oars were cut off. It was then suggested that the crew would have their oars aloft, such as waiting to take a senior officer (Nelson?) on board. This would take up vertical rather than side space:

The final figures have been altered with different heads and hats, but boat crews were a symbol of the ship and would have been attired in smart, almost uniform, clothing.

Soon to be available from Victory Miniatures..........

Happy modelling,

Mike

The officers had proscribed uniforms, but the ratings did not have a formal uniform until 1857. They would have purchased 'Pusser's (Purser's) slops'. The boat crews would have been uniformly dressed if rowing a senior officer, but otherwise would have worn working rig: https://www.rmg.co.uk/collections/objects/rmgc-object-71306

Thanks Mike, I just had a wee search there, very interesting. This would make a cracking model with the full boat and crew.
cheers,
Scotty.
