My version of one of Miniart's 1/16 Greek hoplite kits, in this case the Athenian.

These kits require a lot of work to knock them into shape and even then they can be a bit rough around the edges, but they are great fun to do.

Seriously Peter? You’ve turned a sows ear into a silk purse! I tried this a few years ago and ended up binning it. After seeing this, it might be time to give it another go. Well done mate!

Mobo - Many thanks, as always.

Gary - Glad you approve. These kits do take work, and the results will never win prizes, but they’re worth having a go at.

Nice mix of metals & colours here Peter.
What do you use for golden bronze effect?

Maybe change to partner with hoplite bust I sent over too mate?

Hi Mike

The bronze is a mix of Vallejo Old Gold, German Camo Black Brown and Gold. I put on dark coat mixed from the first two as an initial layer then gradually build up the highlights.

The bust is still languishing after an initial failed attempt, but I will get around to it at some point I promise.

Interesting seeing addition of German Black Brown with metallics Peter. Thanks for detail mate. Are you using the solvent based Vallejo Liquid Gold in glass jar? If so any tips on thinner & application of these?

Hi Peter

All credit to you , you've certainly got a good result , metallics have been mentioned but the shield edging must be ...very neat , surely not a decal

Always good to see your benchtime

Look forward to the next

Have fun at your bench

Oda - Many thanks.

Nap - Glad you approve. The shield edge was painted freehand, Ok to do as long as you keep the triangles equilateral.

Very nice Peter. Great painting, i like the bronze and the edging of yhe shield.

I did a few when Miniart first came out with them, and to say that they need " a lot of work" is an understatement . You did a very good job with the decal too, I remember struggling trying to get the decal on the Roman's shield to go on without breaking, and settle without silvering.

Have you tried one of the mounted figures? The horse brings new meaning to "needs a lot of work" and "some seam lines that need a dab of filler".... lol

Hi Henk

The decal isn’t perfect but at least I got it on.

I have attempted all of the mounted figures, the last one of which I posted as a thread on this site - real pigs to get to a paintable state.
