My next mini project is a 1/35 conversion. I saw a nice little Alpine figure at the Sword and Brush show last weekend and immediately thought of a photo of Georg von Boeselager, one of two brothers active in Henning von Tresckow's resistance cell within the staff of Army Group Centre in 1943/1944.
Von Boeselager was one of only 159 German service men awarded the Knight's Cross with Oakleaves and Swords. If one discounts Generals, U-Boat commanders and Aces awarded this decoration for the success of their commands or solo victories, von Boeselager is among only about twenty Heer officer recipients for valour. Here is my signed photo of von Boeselager.

Here is my inspiration photo and the Alpine figure. There is a close resemblence and the overcoat is the same. I will remove the binoculars and the front of the coat, resculpting it to show the KC with oak leaves. I plan to use the reduced top of the existing overcoat collar as his tunic collar and to sculpt a new overcoat collar, and open lapels on top. I also need to add Oberstleutnant epaulettes. I will add the cane von Boeselager used after his final wound and before falling in action. Luckily the figure is well suited to having a cane to lean on.
Georg von Boeselager fell in action on the Russian front in August 1944, as the Gestapo began to close in. His brother Philipp, also a Valkyrie conspirator and the second last survivor, died in 2008. He too was awarded the Knight's Cross. Here he is with a portrait of his fallen brother Georg in the background.
