Hi everyone,

Here's a personal project - a 5th New York Zouave from the ACW. I'm selling him with rights from my site - http://www.blackcrabsculpting.com

Aaron, It sure is a character filled piece. While the sculpting is wel done I do have a few observations regarding the proportions of the head. Based on the photos the right ear appears to be sitting rather low on the head with the top of the ear running about even with the lower eyelid. Likewise the right eye looks to be sitting lower than the left. As for the teeth they border on being a bit cartoony IMO, but then again he's no Adonis as a fellow poster has put it. I really like the fit and construction of the fez. It has a very natural look. Keep at it. ~Gary

Hi Gary,

His ears look like that because his head is tilted up. I'm purposely playing around with proportions and placement on these sculpts, everyone deviates from the "norm" proportionally so its finding a balance between realistic and characterful that's the trick. I'm a big fan of Norman Rockwells work as he finds this balance.

thanks

Aaron, I agree and think it's possible to tweak things just enough to where you don't cross the line between realism and cartoon. Rockwell has always been one of my favorites. ~Gary
