Just wanted to put this on my Vbench and show the rough steps taken from start to finish.

Please feel free to leave any comments or criticism, all are very much appreciated.

Thanks for taking a look.

Here is the beginning. Super Sculpey Firm Gray applied over a simple armature of copper wire and Magic Sculp roughened to provide a key.
I started with a fairly aggressive stance for angle of the shoulders.

This next image shows the shoulders roughed in with Magic Sculpt. The surface again provides a good key for the application of Super Sculpey.

The next 2 images show the head in it's early stages just getting a feel for the shape of the face and working on the volume of the neck and shoulder area

I had initially intended to do a piece that could be used as a fantasy subject, but as time went on I decided to keep it as a human subject...we had to go for some major nose surgery and work on the rest of the face. begun.

Here is a look at the over-sized nose and sloping mouth.

fb005.jpg

It was at this stage (before changing the nose) I decided to have some fun with the expression and open up the mouth.

Here is an image with the mouth opened up, some teeth added and a few basic wrinkles and creases to add some interest to the expression.

fb007.jpg

Here you see the ears added, they are always a real challenge and I always find them difficult. More basic skin texture has been added and some creases to the skin on the face and neck areas.

Here is a profile shot of what this guy looks like so far..the nose will really have to go...well, made smaller at least.

Below is the new profile after a little surgery.

Here is a shot of the bust very near completion. Most of the more noticeable skin texture is complete.

Lastly, this image shows a close look at the skin after many passes of a couple of different tools of varying sharpness, then some smoothing with alcohol and repeating until the desired effect is achieved.

Hi Roy,

Awesome! Lovely job! Especially the skin texture.

Why does this remind me of Rio Ferdinand (especially the 5th pic)???

Cheers
Basil

hi roy. my bust arrived today. as with all your products it was first class. the pictures do not tell any lie's the detail is spot on with no clean up to mention . the scope is thier for any one who fancies dressing this bust. well done roy. dave.

Roy, Great job on the head. I especially like the texture you've worked into it. The only thing I can comment on is that the corner of the lower jaw is either not there or is not well defined. Here is a Photoshop before/after. The red line indicates the the path more or less of the lower jaw as it is now. The corner of the lower jaw should line up with the lower lip. ~Gary

Hi Roy

Beautiful sculpting and texture ... and it's just 1/7! WOW!

IMO I prefer the 'almost' finished bust nose, the first looked too acquiline, prominent and grotesque, seemed an angry Dante to me ... great expression and look forward to see this line of characters gives me hype to do that dream bust, you might consider proper 54mm characters in the future as we have very few!

Hi Gary, hope you are well...always good to hear your comments. The skin texture was really enjoyable. Re the jaw, it just goes to show we should always concentrate on the basics and keep them firmly to the front of our mind as we work. Thanks for the explanatory picture. Looking at that, I can see I could have afforded to make it a different shape and strengthen that part of the jaw. I am just too flexible with these rules. I'll certainly try to pay more attention to that area in the future. It's great to have this kind of detail pointed out..Very many thanks for your help.

Dan, Christos...many thanks for your kind comments and for taking a look, always appreciated.

Dave, thanks for your great remarks, I'm glad you like it..now if you should decide to show us what you do with it, that would be even better..

Basil..Thanks for the positive comments..I have a feeling He'll be wearing that expression for a while to come..

Dénes many thanks also..glad you like the skin texture.

Hi Ivan...many thanks for looking in on this...thank you for your comments...1:7 scale allows a great deal of space for detail

I love the skin texture, the mouth area and the three dimensionality and form of the ears. Mine always end up glued to the skull and I hate doing them. Outstanding work - as always ;)

Hello buddy. That's one neat piece of sculpting. Terrific my friend.Well done

Hi Marc, thanks for your kind remarks mate, always appreciated.

Guy, many thanks for your enthusiasm on this piece, there will be a couple in OK real soon.

Hi Manfred, and many thanks for the comments..you're right on with the ears, I'm gradually getting used to their form but still need to concentrate on all the other elements to try to make them all work well together.

Hi Stephen, always great to have you comment on my work, many thanks for your encouragement.

Thanks to all for taking a look.

Roy.

Hi Roy;
I really liked this scuplture, and am especially pleased to see it offered as a commercially available product. When I first saw it, his expression reminded me immediately of the character from the "Sharpe's Rifles" series, sergeant Obidiah Hakeswill. I think this would serve as an excellent base for that conversion. Thanks for for making it. Cheers;
Glenn

Hi Glenn...many thanks for your comments, that sounds like a great idea, I can just imagine the hard worn look and the 'rough around the edges' rifleman's accoutrement's..excellent stuff, I bet it would sure paint up well.

All the best...

Roy.
