This is the Jaguar 1/9 "Roman General" kit that I started working on when it was first released, probably somewhere around a decade ago. It comes as a full kit,but they failed to give him his greaves, which he was wearing at the start of the movie. Adrea missed it on their very similiar 54mm figure as well. I worked at finding good pics of the greaves he wore in the movie, found a couple, and decided to sculpt my own. This went on for some years, until recently I finally decided that he would look just fine as a 3/4 figure, so off with the legs! The other big drawback of the kit is that the head as provided looks nothing like Russel Crowe.
This head head number 3 (or is it 4?) and I am now determined it is to be the last one. I re-sculpted a head that I had from another bust to get it to this point. I went ahead and primed him after the amputation, the head having been painted separately. Its still needs much work, but this is how I do it. Paint it, let it dry, fix it, rinse and repeat. Overall the Jaguar kit was one of the best detailed and cast kits I have owned, just the head really lets it down. The wolf skin, the cape, and the shoulder armor are all cast separately, and are very well done. When layered on top of each other they fit together almost perfectly. The cape and shoulder armor are especially thin. The cape is still in the red paint I painted it with years ago, I will just prime over it. I use the Krylon brand texture paint called "Rust". This gives a nice, slightly rough fabric texture, and also provides a nice dark orange undertone that allows some nice hightlight and shadow affects with the red. So here he is, hopefully headed down the right path after all these years, but still a long way to go. As always, all comments, good, bad or indifferent, are welcome.
