Hi Mike,

Thanks for the link.

I'm sure Planeteers could expand the list of the Greatest War Movies.

For me the 10 greatest war movies of all time are (in no particular order);

1. The Longest Day
2. A Bridge Too Far
3. Apocalypse Now (Redux)
4. The Lighthorsemen
5. All Quiet On The Western Front
6. The Rats of Tobruk
7. Spartacus
8. Troy
9. Saving Private Ryan
10. Patton

I'm sure I've left out some classic war movies, but there are so many to choose from. Anyone careto add to this list??

Cheers

Hello,
I would add my top 5 list of films in that order!;)

1. Patton
2. All quiet on the Western Front
3. Glory
4. Gettysburg
5. Troy

georges.

for mine, all quiet on the western front is by far and away the best anti war book written but neither movies do it justice

my top list in no order would be:

1. heartbreak ridge
2. kelly's hero's
3. saving private ryan
4. the light horsemen
5. zulu
6. das boot
7. patton
8. any of the sharpe telly movies
9. band of brothers
10. the patriot

i know 8 & 9 aren't true movies but i think they deserve a mention

My favourite 10 are:

1) Slaughterhouse Five
2) Lawrence of Arabia
3) Dr.Strangelove
4) Zulu
5) Ran
6) Sea of Sand 1958
7) Last of the Mohicans 1992
8) Enemy at the Gates
9) Zulu Dawn
10) Kingdom of Heaven

In other words any war movie that does'nt include Ernest Borgnine-Apologies to Ernest's family, friends and fan club.
-Hold it,what was I thinking.Someone has just reminded me of Ernest's zany portrayal of the commander of
the misfit crew of PT-73 in McHales Navy.Now there's a war movie!:D

-Kingdom of Heaven
-Enemy at the Gates
-Saving Private Ryan
-Band of Brothers
-The Lighthorseman
-Platoon
-All quiet on the Western Front

Worst war movie ever: "Königstiger vor El Alamain" ,Italy 1968 (~kingtiger at El Alamain) Even the title is wrong because Kingtiger were first produced in mid-1944 and El Alamain was in 1942. And like in many 1960's war movies they have at this time modern U.S. Tanks (like M48 Patton) with german markings.
And the hole movie is about the super brave and heroic Italian soldiers!

Hey, nobody metioned 'Der Untergang' !! You must see this one !

I'm just going to list 10 movies, cause it's to hard to rank them.
Der Untergang, Gettysburg, Saving private ryan, the eagle has landed, the longest day, Waterloo, stalingrad, Glory, Das Boot, schindler's list. flags of our Fathers .... oops 11 already Enemy at the gates is really good too and... and...

God so many I forgot
off course Tora, Tora, Tora
Full metal jacket and Platoon. I totally forgot Vietnam!
And two of my all time favourites Casablanca and Lawrence of arabia!
Maybe I should mention my absolute n° 1 movie Dr Zivagho. It's more a love theme but WO1 and the russian civil war is the back ground.
So many, too many to ask only a top 10 unless you're a sadist
