Sadly there are few and far between figures in 54mm depicting the American Civil War or The war of the Rebellion. This one is a beauty depicting the 16th New York Infantry, marching towards The first battle of Bull run, also known as first Manassas.
I have completed the ground work and just to tidy up the figure before planting him on it.

Nice groundwork ....what scale is the figure because I can't see it..lol

Looking forward to seeing it all come together

Thanks for sharing

Nap

Great groundwork just enough not to detract from the figure looking forward to seeing it placed
Cheers Chris

Very nice Bob (y)

What crackle medium did you use for the groundwork?

Thanks Nap he will be a 54mm from FeR miniatures

Thanks Chris, I just wanted a simple base but not just plain old anything.

Billy, the crackle medium is Citadel technical paints Agrellan Earth. It does what it says on the tin (pot)

Thanks again all for the comments, appreciated.

Cheers Bob, I love that cracked earth look and that looks by far the easiest and most effective way I've seen to apply it.

Looks like I might have to don my PPE and venture into my local GW :)

Quick update, not quite finished the figure yet, still a bit to do.
The cracked earth effect is easy to do. You lay a thick coat of the paint onto you painted ground work, wait about an hour and by that time it should be dry and cracked. then highlight to the colour you want. There is a demo on youtube here.

I have used some brass etch for the belt plate and the rear plate on the cartridge box from shenandoah Miniatures.
Thank you Guys for all the kind comments, they are very much appreciated.
