Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can help me in finding if the buttons of the overcoat for these gents were metal or clothed, brass or white metal?

Thanks.

Cheers.

Paulo maybe this helps:

Here or Google Books

Thanks Gordy.

Unfortunately they don't seem to answer my question because all of them are referring to the buttons of the tunic (I've that Osprey book). None of the sites I've searched talks about the buttons on the black-grey overcoat they have for cold weather. There's a photo in the Osprey book that might clarify my doubt but since it's black and white I'm not capable of identifying the material they're made of and the color.

I understand (tunic versus overcoat) can you upload a picture of the coat ? That might help in identifying the style and cut.

Paolo, I'm a little confused, the title of your thread says you're looking for the overcoat buttons for a Brandenburg Hussar but the photo is of a Prussian Guard Dragoon. Which one are we looking for? :)

Roger.

Hi Roger,

Thanks.

I've posted a pic of a dragoon because I thought that the buttons were made of the same material although they may be not of the same color.
If I'm wrong forgive this poor soul for this error:oops:

Cheers

Ok Paulo, now I've got it. :)

On page 15 of MAA 416 (opposite the Dragoon photo you posted) it says of the Dragoon greatcoat "buttons were of regimental colour". I think it would be safe to assume Hussar greatcoats were the same, in this case white metal for the Brandenburg Hussars.
Sometimes you just have to throw caution to the wind and take an educated guess. :D

Roger
