Completed 200MM 82nd Airborne from Maurice Corry...

Here is my latest commission piece just in time for the MMSI show in Schamburg Illinois. It is the 200MM sculpt by Maurice Corry. I had some mixed feelings about this figure in that it is a very fine sculpt actually almost too good in some respects that made it a very laborious piece to paint. The folds and the wrinkles in the jacket are amazing, hence the laborious painting time that it took to bring out these details but I'm not complaining. I do feel though that there is a lot of missing details and equipment here. The reason I say this is because he is supposed to be modeled after a paratrooper of the 82nd airborne during the Normandy drops yet there was no flag on his right arm, no entrenching tool, no musette bag or any other equipment of any kind, just a canteen. Also there is no camo netting on his helmet nor is there a first aid pouch. Like I said, great sculpt but to me he is missing some very basic equipment that I think should have been there so for the next one I do I'll see if I can get my hands on some 200MM US infantry equipment. As usual he is painted in Vallejo acrylics.

Lovely work dan,the painting overall you have achieved is very special,it's big piece at 8 inches high ,can you get it in the display case ok :lol:,i saw this at euro in the bust category,has maurice released it as a bust as well ?

It really is very simple. I paint the MG in flat black to start then I take a carbon DC electric motor brush (The type you'd find in a Dremel tool) and I use a nail file to ground it down into powder kind of like a pastel stick. I then use my finger and burnish it onto the flat black. I then shoot it with a thin layer of dullcoat from my airbrush as this tones down the metallic effect a bit. I used a 60/40 mix of Vallejo Russian uniform green/khaki brown. I then gradually increased mixing it with white for hi-lites. Thanks.

Wonderful painting Dan, really like it. Was just about to ask you for your uniform colours but Jim beat me to it. Like how you did the M/G and cant wait to try your method. Good luck with it at the "Chicago" show I am sure you will do well with it.

as far as I know it has not been released as a bust. Maybe it was just a category error at Euro as I heard there were quite a few of those this year.
