i am mid way through painting this Maurice Correy figure, my first 200mm figure.

I have decided to make a few changes and paint the multicam camo scheme.

it was a long process of studying the pattern in detail this, i think was the fourth attempt. i am in the process of putting a SBS together, i just wanted to see what you guys thought of it first.

i just need to put the seam lines in and some subtle highlights. the knee pads and vest are not complete

open to opinion and critique

cheers

Pete.

Wow! That is fantastic looking. For a second I thought that was a manikin you were using for reference. Very looking forward to an SBS!! (y)

Wow, I'm gonna follow this very close.
My collegue her son served in Afghanistan (Kunduz) with the Dutch Army. Now she want a painted figure for his birthday in Februari. Here choice was this one after Maurice did some more research if this figure could be done as a Dutch Soldier overthere.
I ordered it and gonna have it at Euro.
So, the further you go into the proces the better for me, because it is my first modern figure. Only thing is i must paint him in a sandy color.....she ask.
Don't know yet what she means.

thankyou for the kind words, ill try to get a decent SBS on the colour mixes i use, how i built up the colours and a general idea of shapes etc...

Marc, best of luck with your figure, i had a quick look at Dutch army Camo patterns, and it looks like they mainly use the US tri colour DCU

Yes Pete,
As soon as i'm back from Euro i will clean the figure, and gotta start painting. It's only 4 months to do this giant.
So any help is welcome. In maintime i follow you closely for pitfalls etc.

Marc

more work on the done on the figure over the past few nights.
seam lines, knee pads and boots. also changed the colour and made some headway on the vest

heres a better shot of the vest, im quite happy with the way its starting to look, theres loads of detail, which makes it easier to paint but mistakes stand out a mile, I've tried to vary the green as much as i think i can get away with

still debating on the stubble, and for some reason the oil is still really wet and shiney on theses photos (over 24 hrs ago) any ideas?? i use W&N but a few of them are 4+ years old.

cheers

Pete

Pete, did you put your oils on card first, to lose some of the oil?
The third go looks well, more variety in the tones,
Carl.

Pete,
I'm a oilpainter.
Some tips if you don't mind.
First of oil i let the oil out of the paint. I do that on a indexcart.
Then put the paint over to the palet. With a thiny drop of White Spirit (no turps) i paint.
When my paint session is done, i put the painted part into a drybox for overnight.
They are really flat.

Iv made myself a drying box but I'm really paranoid about using after speaking to an electrician friend, it's 500mm cube with a 60w bulb lined with sticky back foil.it's in my garage, I used it once for a few hours to no effect I'm thinking of reducing the size with a say 40w bulb really don't know exactly what to do?

I'm loving the final face.
I'd stick with the oils.
Remember it's ok to have toned people given they have been in the desert and harsh conditions they will look sun tanned and weather beaten.
I put my oils on an index card for about 20 to 30 mins before I use them.
I have painted faces that take up to a week to lose their shininess.
It's in Iraq and it's humid so it's ok to have a sheen on your faces to replicate sweat.
I much prefer this to the sometimes cartoon effect of flat acrylics.
I have what I think is a good flesh mix. if your interested pm me and I'll give you it.

Pete,
Mine is a cube that measures hxbxd: 30 x 23 x 23 cm. The bulb is 60 W. Overnight the oilpaint is really dry. Sometimes there is a very very light sheen that disappairs when leaving it again one night into the box.
I've been electrician before i became a orthopaedic technician and it works like hell the way i build it. The bulb is the only thing (beside the figure ) that is into the heat. All electricity is outside the box....and that is the electric wire.

Carl If I use acrylics I would never post a pic, iv tried and failed think ill leave that to the experts
Grant, thanks for the kind words and advice, pm sent.
Marc, I'll make a new box similar to your dims.

Cheers chaps!
