Hi!

Saw it a few day ago and advise you to see it also.
Synopse from imdb:
"Berlin, 1941. Five friends eager to become heroes in an adventure that will change the face of Europe - and that will forever change them as well. Level-headed, highly decorated officer Wilhelm is off to the Eastern front with his younger brother Friedhelm, a sensitive dreamer more interested in literature than warfare. Deeply in love with Wilhelm is Charlotte, a young nurse who looks forward to serving in the Wehrmacht, also on the Eastern front. While Greta is a talented singer who longs to become another Marlene Dietrich, her Jewish boyfriend Viktor still cannot convince his parents to leave Germany... Valor and courage come to the fore, but also betrayal - of values, beliefs, humanity. Friedhelm turns into a soulless killing machine... Wilhelm deserts his troops and is court-martialed... Charlotte's Nazi ideology crumbles when she betrays a Jewish nurse helping the German army... Greta obtains papers for Viktor's escape by selling herself to an SS colonel. They and millions of others wanted to be heroes; but none of them could imagine what the war would ultimately do to them and to the rest of the world."

One of the best war series that i´ve ever seen in my life.
Recommended!

Cheers,
Pedro

after reading a comment on FB I dissided to download and watch it.
I have no regrets. Amazing
But I cannot find out how much I have seen. It looks like it is not the end.
Can somebody help me. My version ended with the two brothers in the Russian battlefield. The youngest felt down into the frozen field and the oldest brother is running to him and felt down.
There it ends, it's about 1 1/2/ hour

It's a 3 parts mini serie and it's excellent
for info the title in French is " Generation War" ( yes they gave an English title)
Some young friends reaching adulthood and catched in the storm of war . Basicaly, all good minded, patriots and living between what they know is good and what nazi propaganda has made of them, twisting their mind but yet not enslaving them .

Marc, try Kickass torrents or Pirate bay, they are all there.

Cheers

Be very careful using torrent sites. They are monitored and baited by copyright protection companies who can track your IP and ultimately involve you in very costly law suits.

Funny twist in the discussion - pirated copies of the film get recommended and their availabilty at certain platforms gets advertised. I wonder what would happen over here if a shop gets recommended where you can get good (pirated) copies of miniatures.....

About the film: The producer states that the story is based on memories of real persons. So I hoped the plot would represent the average fate of members of the "generation war". But then all main characters need to be drawn into certain events to transmit the film`s message about "our" mothers and fathers and so the plot becomes to me at times doubtful although there is so much attention paid to historical correct attire and general "look" of the actors. If further for example the rape of character Charlotte is prevented by her former victim (the Jewish nurse) who tells that the Red Army soldiers are liberators and not rapists the film at moments gets even a slight flavor of propaganda in my eyes and surely leaves out the memories of many other real persons.
- To show "the truth" or "how it really was" is anyhow a task next to impossible im my eyes -

This is of course just my view and it should turn nobody else off from taking a look at this miniseries and coming maybe to a totally different conclusion.
Cheers, Martin

Wasn't there a well acted major studio movie from the late 40s or early 50s about a group of young, just out of college types - an American, a Frenchman, a German, an Englishman and maybe an Italian? At the beginning of the movie they meet in 1938 or so in Paris to discuss their various idealistic futures and careers. The German predictably is thoroughly seduced by Nazi idiology, the Italian less so by Fascism and the various biographical threads of how they are involved in the war run through the story line for an hour or so. At the end, those who survived - everyone but the German meet again in Paris but they are no longer friends. Just curious if anyone remembers that one.

All the best,
Dan

Quite different Martin. My unique interest is seeing the movie, not obtain funds with it. When release to market I will buy for sure.
The copies i have are 2DF channel form Germany, recorded from tv by someone in your country and made available to everyone on the web.
So, I never buy copies of any original brand of miniatures in my life.

Cheers

I've seen clips of this tv series and it looks very good. Can you get it with English subtitles?

Yes, seen it. Impressive, even if dramatized for TV a bit.

The legal way to see it is to buy the DVD via Amazon, or so. It's not very expensive (cost of one 54mm figure). I bought the german version and it does not have any subtitles, so non-german speakers would have to wait for an english release, which I've heard will come. Or go pirate... ;-p

By the way, I think the face of the younger brother character (the one that turns into a ruthless soldier) very much looks like the head of the latest H&V Miniatures figure (the walking SS guy). Just to mention something irrelevant...
