Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin [a] (9 March 1934 – 27 March 1968) was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut who became the first human to journey into outer space, achieving a major milestone in the Space Race; his capsule, Vostok 1, completed one orbit of Earth on 12 April 1961. Gagarin became an international celebrity and was awarded many medals and titles, including Hero of the Soviet Union, his nation's highest honour.

Helmet Mystery;

Yuri Gagarin really had no signs on his helmet initially. Even on the day he was planned to go to become the first man in space – he had no red letters CCCP on his helmet.

When he went on a bus to board a rocket someone noticed “Look, he doesn’t have anything telling he is from our country!” and then one officer who was on board of the same bus took some marker and wrote USSR by hand on Gagarin’s helmet.

So this is how it appeared.

The model by 2dreamers (http://2dreamers.cz/) arrives in a stout carboard box with a photo of the completed model painted by Radek Dosko along with the number out of 60 limited copies you own, in my case number 13.

Inside the box are the following items;

bust of 3 HQ resin parts
Photoetched parts :
- Mision Vostock 1 sign
- Microphone parts
- Anniversary emblem RU
- Anniversary emblem EN
Mask - stencil for CCCP airbrushing
Tinned copper wire
Brochure
Stickers:
- Gagarin Art
- Anniversary emblem RU
- Anniversary emblem EN
- 2dreamers logo

The figure has been superbly sculpted by Pavol Ovecka (offo on here).
On opening the box you find the stickers, a build guide card on top of the gold brown shredded paper, then a bag containg the torso, helmet and a smaller bag contating the head.

Under this and more gold brown shredded paper are the various etched metal items, more stickers and a small multilingual book with a bit of history regarding the great man himself

The first piece of etched metal contains the space mission logo (BOCTOC translating to Vostok 'East') and the pieces to construct the microphones, 4 pieces each side. I assume you stack these on top of each other to get the correct scale thickness.

Next piece of etched metal are two anniversary plaques/patches one in russian and the other in english, the relief been cast in red. the look very smart and will look very nice mounted on a plinth;

Nice piece of artwork as a sticker

A painting guide with the boxart image

Various stickers included with this release

continued in next post ................

Onto the Resin;

As stated this comes in a plastic bag;

The upper torso featuring the SK-1 spacesuit. Sk-1is an initialism of "Skafandr Kosmicheskiy" # 1 (Скафандр Космический = "diving suit for space") its a spacesuit that was developed specially for Yuri Gagarin. After his successful flight on the Vostok 1 spacecraft, spacesuits of the SK series were used for space flights of other cosmonauts on Vostok spacecraft

Details are nice and sharp and very well cast, creases vents and zip all been very well done

Small cast line to remove and OFFO's logo

The Helmet, this needs the casting block removing from the top of the helmet and a slight sink mark needs filling in, not a deal breaker, the internal details are nice and sharp.

The great man himself, as you can see nicely cast facial details with well defined eyes, wrinkle and a bit of a smirk on his well defind lips

Excellent weave texture on his lightweight hat with headphones

Head and torso together

Ready for space

What it should look like :)

And thats it a fantastic little production and well worth the money. Excellent communication from Petr and fast shipping with full tracking from the Czech Republic.

Good review Steve. Some neat sculpting there from Offo. Intrigued by the logo being applied with marker pen on the bus to the pad!

I know, the Americans would have probably stopped the bus, masked up the helmet, base coated the logo, applied the colour, gloss coated it with some sort of anti radiation varnish, heat baked it, tested it for days and then resumed the launch. Russians on the coach 'anyone got a red pen' :LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

I got a bronze award for my rendering of Yuri at Sword and Lance a couple of years ago.
