Hi All,

How does the face look?

I took some sorely needed advice from you. I'm working on a better quality figure than previously posted. This is an El Vejio Dragon kit. Please ignore my 3 year olds painting effort. You'll see it! I hope that the base colors will cover it! I'm getting my 7 year old boy in the act too. This is a family effort whether I like it or not :)

Feedback is welcome. Thanks!

Ok, some constructive criticism so don't take it the wrong way. First, your eyes look way to popping. When painting eyes, tone down your white with a touch of black or flesh color. Plain white causes a bug eye'd look. Your transitions from shadows to highlights are really stark as it there is not much transition. It looks like your painting with acrylics so the key here, and I am no expert because I paint with oils, the key is layering your paints in really diluted strokes. I can't remember who posted an SBS on acrylic face painting but you can look on ANdrea Miniatures web site and they have some great downloads on acrylic painting which is a great and FREE reference. Now your highlights could be really glaring because of the flash on your camera. Try holding a piece of white paper just in front of the flash to diffuse the flash. That and if this is a hobby your going to continue, look into a macro box. You can find them all over the net or even build your own on the cheap. It's just 3 lights, white paper and patience! It really helps with shooting your figures. Hope this helps and look into ANdrea Miniatures for the downloads. If I find the article on acrylic face painting I'll PM you with the link.

If you want to go a little more upscale, search for "studio in a box" on e-bay. I bought a set very cheap and really like it. Make sure you buy the kind of lights that don't get too hot and are made for photography. They come on little tri-pods and are adjustable. It all comes as a kit.

Here is a link to an example only and is not intended to promote one over the other.

Gary, thats basically the same one I have and it works pretty godd but the lights do get pretty hot but the advantage is I use them for drying my oil paints so there was an added benefit too!!!

My problem is mine only came with two lights so I have to set a third light on top to get any type of even lighting and if I want to back light I am screwed. I cant find the lights themselves separately except for really expensive light housings so I keep looking!
