I'm not to sure about the angle of the farrier to the horse, but that's the flat not your painting.
Great work regardless Roger,
Carl.

Very cool!

As someone who has shod a lot of horses over the years (did two this morning!) I find it very interesting to see figures of horse shoeing. I wonder how the accuracy is of the techniques used back then and how it correlates to the flat. It's a very interesting technique!

The paint job is great though and I especially like the grey horse and the tack.

Are there more Farrier type flats out there?

Thank you Anders for your comment and interest. There's lots of interesting agricultural and civilian subjects in the flat world, I'm not sure if there are anymore farriers out there but I'll be keeping my eyes open.
I did come across this one of a blacksmith just yesterday,

I've also attached the Philips Wouwerman painting that the figs were probably based on. He lived 1619-1668 so you can see how it was done back then. :) A image search of his work throws up some other great paintings.

Roger.

PS This would be a good subject for a talented sculpter of round figures with practical horse shoeing knowledge. :D

It's beautiful Roger! You did a fantastic job. I really like it. Don't worry about the leg, the paint work steals the show.
