I can see the reason for complete assembly , reins , sabretache etc but it makes it so difficult to paint , and these guys are difficult enough without making it harder
Perhaps with the more rigged copper it is not so bad as it won't get pushed about with the brush .
Must try this

This is coming along splendid , that is a hard tone of grey to achieve

Ivo, another wonderful mounted 54mm Napoleonic soldier. You make it look easy to create these little masterpieces. Very nice greys, both the horse and the trooper. Do you watch Napoleonic movies while you paint? I can imagine you watching The Duelist.

no, not really... I saw the Duelist a coupe of time in the past. I paint three different figure along the years with the 3rd hussar grey... all different
