Good stuff, Daniel!
Slowly, slowly we can see light at the end of the tunnel!
Following closely! For sure you will have a second look to the tall grass. This is just preliminary, isn't it?
Cheers mate,
Zeno

Yes, this is just preliminary and i wasn't happy with that tall grass, too long even thou i cutted a little but it is just upright and i am thinking of cutting it more and add some pale green to it.
I already bought silflor late summer and autum grass tuft today, i think it will add a very realisti look and cover the green base that is too " springy" for when the batlle was fought ( 28 and October 19, 1781) which is late summer.
Thanks again for looking, really helps to have your opinion/advice.
Regards

I think that is a good idea to cut the tall grass even more. If you'll try to cut it uneven, it will be better. I used with good success jute and hemp rope. I noticed that hemp fibre is a little to thick for this scale, but you may try to see how it looks. I think that jute rope will do the job in combination with what you used already. BTW, what did you used for the tall grass?
To avoid the upright look, shape it before the glue dries. It's a fussy job but it pays off and will look much more realistic.
The tufts will be a great touch.
Great stuff Daniel! Looking forward to see how this great dio develops!
Cheers mate,
Zeno

I finished the grenadier's fur hat, faces, and all that is left to do is the gaiters, shoes, hair and musket.
Cheers

Daniel, I use the Silfor-type long tufts for 40mm, and they work well. BUT, in my opinion, you must paint them. Dark greens to start, then lighter shades, and a final drybrushing of the tips with some yellow or tan mixed into your lightest green. Late fall in Virginia is still quite mild, and the grasses would retain their green shades until much later (here in New England, grass grows until we have frost [sub 32F], then it begins to turn brown). The suggestion about jute string is also a good one, but again, I would recommend painting it.
I like the brown in the grenadier hats; "black" bear fur is much more brown than most painters realize.
As we've discussed before, your whites show nice variation, which should enhance the whole scene as you put it together.

Thanks for your kind words Don, i like silflor, great brand , don't remember the brand i've order but it has some variation in color form the root towards the top, i ordered the late summer and another in autum color, i will probably touch it up with some green when on the diorama, first i want to lay it down and see how it looks, then work on the accuracy of the terrain color base on the season.
Thanks again for such valuable infor.
Regards

I really like your work.May I ask where you got your bases and what are the dimensions.
Mark

Of course Marco, i bought the hardboard bases at Pearls craft store, they are 16x20 inches .
I am sure you could find them at Michaels or any of the art/craft stores.
Thanks for passing by

Looking great so far.
I found to give the long grass a more natural look... don't trim it nice and flat like a brushcut, as has been said, also, once it's dry, set some various weights on top of the grass to get some bend in the stalks and have some leaning in different directions or even laying flat to look trampled by passing troops.

Carry on Sir

Thanks Colin, i already shortened and put some weights on it.
I already ordered some long and short grass tufts which i think it will look great.
i am trying to find some pictures of the yorktown area so i could have a better idea on how the ground lays and try to give at least some accuracy on how it looks.
certainly a challenge but i like to be as close as possible to how the are looks.
as for now i am enjoying the rainy canadian weather and on my way to visit Quebec city, so i'll catch up with troopers and terrain next week :)
