Hi all,

With an enforced period of free time heading my way due to health issues, I'm planning on making inroads on my collection of figures and kits starting with this fellow, Elite Miniaturas Pvt, 42nd Highlanders (Black Watch) Crimea 1854. I've never tackled tartan before but I feel pretty certain I can make a decent fist of it though, of course, time will tell. Any pointers and feedback over the course of the painting will be gratefully received.

alongside young Jock here I also plan on tackling Verlinden's Waffen SS Schutze, a kit I have long desired to get hold of,

and New Hope Designs Gallow's Bird, a small diorama (or is it vingiette?) showing a 1590's mounted Border Reiver contemplating a gallows.

I'll put up separate threads for the SS figure and the Reiver but I just thought I'd mention them in my preamble.

Thanks for looking in,
Jim

mmmm...knew I shouldn't have rushed things

Got too excited and started messing with things beyond my ken!! Well, painting a face in acrylics. Started well but one wee mistake led me to several large mistakes :( so it's the Dettol bath for Jock here and I'll try again with oils next week

Hi Jim,
I wish I had a pound for every time I had to take the paint off of pieces.
Have another look at your small figures (they are well painted) and apply the same approach and techniques.
I guess most of all don't do too much in one go......as they say in Liverpool "Calm Down".
This is a nice little figure and you can make a decent job of it.
All the best,
Keith
