Yet another of Mick's Mick's "V" busts, I think I am getting an addiction to these lovely pieces of Victorian soldiery.

P1130671 (2).JPG

I have always loved the Lancers, and the Lance Cap or Czapka is such a lovely shape.

It was the Czapka that I started on before my previous bust as I wanted to give the skull cap part a rough coat of neat Artist's oils to give it some texture for the leather look and needed it to fully dry before starting the rest of the bust.

So as normal for me usually I start with the face using Artist's oils after painting the eyes in acrylics.

That's it for today, unless I sneak back up into "The Hanger" before beddy byes.;)

Great start Geoff,
You get back in the Hanger, you know you want to.
Mick

I can't keep up.

I don't reckon Mo Farrah would ...lol

Another great start Mr C ......good point about the texture on the helmet

Following ...a little out of breath ..but following

......see told you so ..View attachment 344517

You were right Mick I did manage to spend just over an hour in the Hanger, pics to follow.

I don't rush it just I suppose it's just a steady rate with no interruptions and think out how to do things first.
Texture shows nicely in the following pics Nap, I had to do that again last evening as well as the first lot seems to have leveled off.

Thanks Guys
Geoff

Thanks Guys I am pleased with the face on this one, and yes I breath normal but a bit wheezy, I don't know about record time I just plod along steady, but I do think I must have a different technique to others if I do them quicker, possibly because I started with oils and enamels years ago??

All the best
Geoff

I don’t know which way to look, they’re coming from all angles! Another great start on this one Geoff. This is a great bust and you look like your enjoying tackling this set from Mick.

Many thanks Neal, yes I am certainly enjoying this set, it makes a change to not have to paint arms and things, that is probably why I seem to be doing them so quickly.

Cheers

artist's
Keep them coming Geoff.
You' re doing us proud .:)
Glad to see I 'm not the only one still using enamels & oils .(y)

Barrie(Newbee)

Thanks a lot Barrie, I used to use enamels all the time but health problems made me change, occasionally use them now but not that often, only use Artist's oils for faces usually.

Cheers

Todays progress
Girdle painted a deep yellow then area glossed and red decal stripes applied finishing with a matt coat.
Helmet plaque and other brasswork given earth wash then when dry highlighted.
Buttons given brass coat. Red and blue bits touched up and another yellow coat applied to cords.

Tricky job tomorrow, fixing the cords from the right shoulder to the rear of the Czapka and painting them.

Geoff

Hi Geoff

Looks great the helmet plate has really come out well ...anymore washes or highs

You used a decal on the girdle ?

The close up of the head looks really good
