The template is this illustration from the Osprey "Men at Arms" volume no. 364 "The Russian Army 1914–18"...:
The illustration was created from a photo and shows the Podpolkovnik (lieutenant colonel) and deputy regiment commander of the 94th Jenesej Infantry Regiment, Leonid Nikolayevich Bunin.
What's interesting about the picture is that it doesn't show him "in action", but immediately after the surrender of the rest of his troops!
Here are more pictures from the series - including those showing Russian officers who had not yet been "filted" by the Germans, i.e. robbed of their medals, effects and equipment...:
The Jeneseyer (garrison Pskov)...
Uniform details...:
Regimental badge.:
... got into the pocket of Tannenberg as part of the 24th Russian Infantry Division of the Nyemen Army of General Alexander Wassiljewitsch Samsonow as part of the 1st Army Corps under General Artamonov, suffered heavy losses in a battle near the town of Usdau ( 40 percent of the stock!) and finally surrendered in a hopeless situation, along with over 95,000 other Russians.
Only 10,000 men managed to escape from the pocket - more than 30,000 dead Russian soldiers lay in the forests around the Masurian Lakes...
And another note:
The Podpolkownik is also available as a 1:9 bust from "Model Cellar" ...
... and of "Saint Petersburg" as a (painted) 54 figure...:
Oh yes, the order still: it is the 3rd class of the Russian order Order of Saint Anne with Swords (for military merits)...
... in the version with a second - transverse - band, which indicates a second award of the same order to the same person...:
(The rigid rank system in force in tsarist Russia made it impossible to give him the next higher 2nd class...
... that was only possible from Polkownik (Colonel) upwards...)
Cheers
