Barry, Thanks. I'll try to get a bit more in depth on the sbs's, especially accessories and on some of the sculpting. There are other ways to do belts/slings, I'll give these a try on future projects.~Gary

Construction of the M1842 resumes with filling out the various shapes of the stock and musket furniture. At this stage a combination of fine sanding and putty work are in order.

Sorry if the pics are not great, the extreme close-ups did not turn out exactly as I wanted.

It was time to resume work on this figure. I'm not going to do much more on this sleeve other than taking some of the material off of the arm as there is too much. I'll finish the arm once I have a casting of the M1842 musket (needs to be finished also). The buckles and ties for both gaiters have also been completed.

I have to refine the barrel bands and then add the hammer and trigger guard. The bands have to be cleaned up and sanded down a bit more as they are a little thick.

Here's the M1842 musket. I have the butt plate and sling swivels left and it'll be done...finally!

The hammer is made of plastic and a very small piece of lead wire.

Here's the figure. The chinstrap is plastic strip, and the belt plate and buckle are Shenandoah photo-etched. I have since added the buttons to the jacket and sides of the forage cap.

Gary,
For me, this is the best figger to date I have seen from you...simple amazing my friend. I agree with Stephen, the trousers are incredible and the composition of the pose really brings the whole figger together. The musket is incredible. I can't wait to see this beaut painted up...

This is going to be offered commercially, right..? ;)

All the best,

Patrick

Guys, Thanks for the kind words. I know, shame on me for taking so long. I guess I got seriously sidetracked by other things. I just may have these painted in time for the 1 year anniversary. This and the Confederate are both one-offs. I may do some commercial 54's in the near future but don't hold me to it as there are other things I need to finish first. Thanks again.~Gary

Garry,

I 'am not a sculptor. But when i see this, follow it, re-read it again and again, i think i never gonna be a sculptor.
What a job you did.
Now you have to paint him.
Then he is finished to a one of a kind. Is it been casting, and comercial availble.

One question. Where is the head from??

Marc.

Leigh, Thanks, good to see you still hanging out here.

Marc, the figure is a one-off piece. The head is from Shenandoah Miniatures.

I wish this had gotten finished sooner as there is so much that I would have done different now.~Gary

Jason, Thanks. Though it's not a great image, the ramrod end was built up with little layers of superglue and then sanded.~Gary
