Hi all,

I got a good deal on this miniature from a Chinese site, but unfortunately he does not include instructions. I have figured everything out except for one part (photo enclosed) which i am guessing is part of the harness, perhaps the bit?

The other assorted straps I think I can work out.

Would anyone knows where I could see the instruction sheet and/or have any idea where this part should go. I have googled images of bits and harnesses, but nothing great has turned up.

Mille grazie,

Adrian

Thanks for the quick reply, Carl.

There is only one and on the photo of the parts on the site there is also only one of these parts?!

Adrian,

Finding a miniature on a chinese site most likely means you're looking at a recast. I think a lot of people have accidentally bought recasts when they were just starting out (myself included). In the future try to only buy from places you can be confident are selling original figures. Lately I've been buying the majority of my figures from Red Lancers. They're located on the East Coast, so shipping to New York should be quick. I get most of my figures within two days. Colorado Miniatures also has good prices, though I have not bought from them.

As for your part... it looks a little like the piece just behind the horse's bit on the right side. I just recently got the 90mm mounted hussar from Andrea. I can try to scan a copy of those instructions. I know it's not the same... but it may be close enough to help you figure the rest out on your own.

It is hard to believe that people accidentally buy recasts. I am quite sure they are very aware of the product they are getting. Adrian already mentioned he had a "good" deal. That means he knew how expensive is the original product. So, where is the common sense? Did you really think you will receive a fine product with all parts included and instruction with the "discount" of 70-80 percent of the original piece?

I cannot stand that there are still people that will choose to buy those pirates. And after all some people are coming over here and ask for parts or instructions. We do not support piracy of any kind here!

I think it's this part that's badly outlined here. As a consolation, I've just found a well known re-caster selling this for $130. Sold as Andrea, but with the give away packed in "normal box". Bargain compare to the Robberex price of £180.
Carl.

Speaking for myself, when I started getting into the hobby I had no idea recasting even existed. I just assumed all models were legit. Maybe it was naive, but that's really where I was coming from. While we should educate people to avoid recasters, we should also be careful not jump down the throat of someone who probably just made an honest mistake.

Thank u Bailey,

FYI i did write a private reply to Piotrec that before anyone huffs and puffs they should find out the facts. I wrote him I did not even know such things as "recasts" exist... that the price was not 75-80% off like he wrote, but around 50%; i had seen other dealers offering over 25% off on their websites... This site I bought from said "Andrea"... nowhere did i see "not in original box" etc etc.

I appreciate your sentiments about educating and encouraging a neophyte, rather than the war-club over the head approach.... :))

I do not intend to offend you Adrian. I remember too, when I was starting my adventure with figure modeling. There was a figure I always wanted. I found it in one place for about $30. I did not know much about miniature figures at that time ( I still do not know much), but I was aware of the price from manufacturer, which was around $90. I did not buy it, because it did not look right to me and the seller had more of the figures in his store with "great" prices.

If I offended you, I am sorry. But my post is reaction of what has been happening recently when China invaded market with hundreds of recasts, especially on eBay. There is more and more people coming over here and showing their work saying they bought recast accidentally or somebody gave it to them as a gift.

For me is enough to look at the comments of some of the Chinese recasters at eBay to realize how many people are buying that stuff and they do not even care that is a recast. Majority of them are very happy with the product and service they are getting. That is what worries me.

No offense taken, Piotrec.

I agree with you about piracy... the problem is the sites are so slick and look like the real thing.

all the Best, Adrian

First of all, by pure chance I have the same figure, but is an original, purchased directly from andrea. This piece is a part of the sword. It is the hand guard. At the moment I paint this great figure and I hope within the next few weeks to post the appropriate pictures.

To another topic. Who is honest with themselves will admit that this all happened or nearly happened. The important thing is that everyone realizes that it is wrong and in the long term it will undoing for our hobby. For the new innovations and thus figures are not appear of re-casters but of the offizin like Andrea, Pegaso and all the rest of the great manufacturer.
Without this manufacturer and their products the re-casters will not survive, because they nothing have to copy.

It is very difficult today to find out is this original or a copy. For two years I bought a figure from pegaso, i thought. They have a bank account in europa and they are so perkily to sell their re-caster with original product pictures. The best indiz to find out if that a original or a re-caster I think is the price.

Best wishes
Charon

(sorry for my english, its getting late and its not my native language.)

Yes, I have been in and out of this hobby since the 70's and am still amazed by the amount of deception and outright thievery in such a small, niche hobby. And it's not confined to evil orientals, either. According to John Garrat, author of The World Encclopedia of Model Soldiers (1981) among a number of Canadian and US pirates, J.Campbell of Squadron Shop apropriated Sanderson's figures and produced a line of Squadron Waterloo kits pirated from Historex. So, yes, it's easy to be fooled, though there are those who knowingly buy pirated (I think that "stolen" is a better term) figures and are as guilty as those who made them. And it now appears that you have to careful about what large toy soldier store you give your credit card number to!Thank goodness we're all honest guys and gals!

This figure is my current project. The part you asked about is part of the sword hilt. If your kit was still in the box, look at the photos of the sword on the back. Good luck.
