I think I need to add the details onto the flag first Kev before the painting begins, I think the white star would have been stitched on so it needs to be slightly raised from the main body of the flag in magic sculpt, whereas the battle honours were possibly just painted on, everything is marked out where it needs to be as this was all done before folding the flag into its present shape, I might lose the battle honour markings if I try & prime it all now, so best I get them done in thin magic sculpt lettering too just to be on the safe side, so it looks like a bit more putty work to go.(y)

Good point there ...will you be adding the battle honours as well with putty ......a lot of letters ......perhaps think of some after market lettering

Look forward to seeing the "small" details on the flag

Happy putty pushing

Kev, I'm adding all the battle honours in putty, I'm about halfway done and now leaving to allow the putty to harden at the moment before I manage to smudge everything if I were to continue, it's coming out OK, will post some more photos once it's all finished and before priming prior to....... "PAINTING!":nailbiting:

Thanks Kev much appreciated you Ole biscuit muncher you!
Regarding the reference for the battle honours..Don Trioani and there's loads on the internet regarding ACW battle flags, with reference to the pole finial, I've not quite made up my mind yet, either leave it as it is as many Confederate flags didn't have a finial as they used just bare wooden poles, but then again some did carry a finial, I think it all looks a bit more rugged and battle weary with the finial missing....the Jury's still out on that one?
Thanks for turning the pics again for me Kev(y)

I've finally managed to make a start on getting some paint onto this bust conversion of mine, I'm just at the undercoating stage at the moment, so this is two coats of humbrol matt enamels completed, now onto the fun bit with adding the oils at some point soon.
Cheers
Jim
Kev can you turn the photos the right way up please?(y)

Kev, Bob & Mike.. Thanks chaps, I've been trying to get going with the painting on this but constant interruptions of house maintenance, gardening etc etc getting in the way, hoping to get some oils on him soon(y)
Cheers
Jim
Thanks for sorting the photos Kev

Here's an update on this one, after a of a couple of months I've finally got back to painting rather than sculpting, He's painted in oils over an undercoat of humbrol enamels, the actual figure is now all finished, I've tried to go for a very weather beaten and worn look to his face and uniform, as I believe he would have been back in the summer of 1863 battle of Gettysburg, going to call this one "Texas Brigade, into the Devils Den 1863" seeing as it was the Texas Brigade that took the position of the Devils Den prior to the attack on Little Round Top during the battle of Gettysburg.

I've now got the flag to start working on with the oils, hoping to crack on with this over the next week or so
