Hi Guys here is my latest box diorama depicting Napoleon having left the field at Waterloo in his Berline, The Coach is scratch-built and Napoleon is a conversion of a 90mm Andrea figure painted in Acrylics . The lighting is using grain of wheat bulbs from a dolls house store to depict the coach lights.

A very good idea and nicely made and painted John.
Is that an acurate representation of the interior of the Berline or did you have to do some guesswork? That's not in any way a criticism just I'm just interested what you used for reference.

Roger.

A brilliantly painted piece and superb idea, just one thing john, with napoleon having just left the field of waterloo perhaps some slight weathering on the boots and coat would add to the realism (y)

Simply love it!

A quality piece, well executed and such a simple way to portray a monumental event in history...

I saw photos of this piece and thought/think it was very well executed. I too am interested in the interior of the coach

Hi Guys and thanks for the comments, Roger I dont take them as criticism's its a valid question.

I used various references for the coach interior including a period description of the captured coach as well as some contemporary line drawings which were part of the Berline exhibition in Paris, these had some drawings of the interior woodwork. There were also two exterior photos of the Berline which were taken in Madam Tussauds before the coach was destroyed in a fire in 1929. I have attached these just to give you guys an idea of the real thing.

Hi Brian

Thanks for that I will adjust the weathering as I went very light.

John

Thank you for posting the reference pics John. I knew the original was destroyed in the fire which prompted the question and I hadn't seen any actual pictures of it myself.

Roger.
Thanks Roger it was unfortunate that it was destroyed but luckily I found the references and photos on the net, what did we ever do before the net? Guess it would have been harder researching it by thumbing through thousands of books.

I love the work on the interior of the Berline John, the lighting and the way you've posed Napoleon really add to the atmosphere of the piece. Sorry I didn't get a chance to catch up with you at Euro, I'm not sure where the weekend went :) Hope to see you in Dublin next year(y)

Saw this at Euro and was delighted to discover it had got a Gold. Very well deserved as it a beautiful piece.
