a few questions

hi all i tryed to take better pic of what i am working on . here is how they turned out pretty bad whice is what the head looks like LOL. i based the face with reaper pale flesh then used oil colors pure burnt sienna then used pure white for highlights i got this from a old book called the modelmakers handbook . so here are my questions how can i improve my pics my wife has a nikon d90 and also what should i have used as a base coat i can get tamiya testors and reaper paints near my house or do you suggest a base in oils THANKS AGAIN
