Hello mates,

I had the chance to be part of the kickstarter from Golem Miniatures with this so beautiful Mermaid, designed from the original painting by John William Waterhouse ...

my fig is #43 from 350 produced. it is really a very nice sculpt, respecting in every point the original painting, and that is a true challenge for me as i want to stay and respect the original work.

so here is how it starts :

once built and in place with Primer ... 1 week of time to dry :

today i worked on the base colors, i mean, those are really basics shades thrown onto the fig, just to have a global idea of where i am going while respecting the original painting

the palette :

some reference for the Oyster :

and finally the starting point :

I think this is going to be a nice journey :)

I was in on his first and subsequent Kickstarters ..they are tiny but quite nice ..his kickstart process is rather unusual in that there is a vote system for ongoing subjects..the original art being rendered is generally forgettable genre stuff, but in miniatures can be fun

I regret not taking part in this KS, as I liked this figure and Golem actually puts out a good product; I have several of their other "Muses". Looking forward to see where you go with this

so, first of all : I present you all my best wishes for 2021, let's hope we will see the end of those weird times !

back to the Mermaid, this one seems to follow the 2020 trend into weirdness ... all my usual ways of painting seem to just ... fail on this one !
actually i don't see what to do or where to go with her, shadows look inexistants, highlights doesn't work as usual and the eyes don't appear as they are in real life ... she's even fighting against the lens of my cell phone !

IF any of you can help me : please tell me your ideas !

here is where i am now after using all my (poor) knowledge :

Heeeeeeelp !
