Hi All just had a great back room visit to the Royal Armouries in Leeds with the guys from the white rose club. The club arranged for the members to have a private visit to the Waterloo exhibition running at the Leeds Armouries. it was fantastic and very informative indeed. we got to handle Muskets and Swords from the battle. Our guide was great and made the whole visit very interesting. this is the second Back room visit that we have been to the last one was looking at the Asian collection.

We were all surprised at the weight of the muskets and the lightness of what you would have thought would have been heavy swords. and just how well balanced they were.

Other artefacts had been loaned from the Army museum in Paris one being a cuirass which had been hit by a canon ball and had travelled through the man who wore it. it just brought home what kind of injury the men suffered during the battle.

Would just like to Thank Ian & Richard for organising the event Cheers guys looking forward to the next one.

Ian

Hi Nap yes Ian & Ray Stout took some they were going to put them up on the White Rose Face Book Page I asked them both to put them on here. It was a fun day the next event is a walk round the Battlefield of Towton with a pub lunch after. and then the Napoleonic Ships surgeon talk so some good things coming up.
Cheers

My God, look what that cannon ball did! It's horrific but I suppose he died quick and relatively painless..... Let's hope so anyway.

Hi Graham,

The club meets on the 2nd Saturday of most months in Leeds, great bunch of blokes and some superb painters in the group.

If you fancy a look in then the Xmas bash is well attended from all areas of the country.

A couple of friends of mine went to the Armouries and had a great time, these organised visits are a glimpse behind the scenes and the Armouries are pleased to organise these events for a donation. They also supported the club last Xmas as one of their team presented prizes at the Xmas event.

Hi Graham

Claude has given you a good over view of what we do. the club meets in Headingly near the Rugby/Cricket ground. It's the second sat of the month and we always have something going on. and have a monthly comp to get members to bring their stuff. we have traders their some times Steve from SK comes down. but Ellie's Mins and Oakwood Studios are their every month and their is always a bring and but to sell the kits you have spare.

The Xmas Bash is the highlight of the year and is very well attended and the comp is great we had well over 300 models in the comp. free food and Drink a Auction which Keith runs and is great fun. and always some good traders to help you part with your money lol.

Ho Thanks Ray for the photos I had hoped someone got the photo of the cuirass with the cannon ball. the guy who wore it was 6feet 4 and was killed out right. to see it in the flesh was amazing but made you think about what damage a cannon ball can do to you.

Just to let you know Graham the White Rose boys will be at Figure world with the club stand Have a chat to them.

The Cannon Ball was a 6 pounder, and hit him at an angle, the back plate hole is higher than the front, suggesting the ball had bounced before hitting him !!!!

If you nip over to Saxton village, "The Greyhound" has Sam Smiths ales at silly prices, I mean cheap! Like Waterloo, Towton has an atmosphere all its own. Love the place.
I've noted the dates of the WR meets, so I hope to drop by one of these days, whilst visiting in-laws up Wheetwood lane!

Cheers, Alan

Sounds like a great trip Ian - and the forth coming events do too. I must get over sometime both to the Waterloo exhibition and the WR club.
Lucky enough to see the damaged breastplate in Paris last year - it really brings home the terrible casualties of that battle.
Cheers
