Hi guys

I was not sure where to post this - it is a sculpting tool - sort of. if this is the completely wrong place. perhaps a moderator can either move it or let me know.

I have produced a pdf abs of how I made this disc punch. Probably more useful for AFV modellers, but discs are needed on figures so I thought it may be useful to post it.

Excellent Peter and thanks for sharing, have downloaded the PDF and might just give this a go, I am always in need a varying sizes of disks for different projects (y)

Yes, a common tool in the scale modeler's toolbox, too. Walther's made a punch set, which is now available through Roll Models (who acquired Walther's line). That was considered the best. I bought MicroMark's product, because the price was lower, but you get what you pay for. The die has no markings to identify the diameters. It's served me well enough, though.

I also have a hexagonal punch set from RP Toolz. That comes in handy on my Maschinen Krieger builds, making hex bolt heads.

Prost!

Steve - glad you like the idea - good luck with it.
Mike - I bought one of those punches, but found the small number of punches limiting, especially for smaller disks.
Brad - MicroMark is a supplier I was not aware of - they have some great products, but expensive; my punch set cont about £10, including the drill bits.

Ah! I'd add in the price of your drill press, though, too.

Yeah, Micro-Mark has an extensive catalog, but from my perspective, they're kind of like Williams-Sonoma is for cooking and dining products. That is, I'll see something in their catalog, and then look for a less expensive product somewhere else. I've sets of fine drill bits, for example, that are exactly the same as MM sells, but I got mine from a tool seller/liquidator at a woodworking show. Same goes for rotary tool bits and accessories.

As far as the punch-and-die set goes, though, MM's set, at $59.95, is about half as expensive as the Walther set was. But even for that money, it's not even marked. That was a disappointment. The punches are apparently in increments of .5 mm, but I just haven't gotten around to making my own labels for the die.

Prost!
Brad
