Hi planeteers!

I finished my last figure couple of days ago, and now when I open the door where I keep my figures I have a strange sensation, I dont want to paint any of them.:bored:
Did any of you have this felling at some point?

Pedro.

Hi Pedro,
I've had quite a few months like that from time to time, what knocked the lethargy out of me was Steve's (Valiant) Boer war drummer boy release, I just knew I wanted to convert and paint it. Something will kick start you, sometimes for me it can be reading or researching someone, if nothing else keeping planning projects what you would like to do and noting down idea's.
Do a conversion! so that you know no one else in the world has one like that, that seems to inspire me. But as Colin rightly said force yourself.
Keep your chin up mate. Maybe it's time for some new recruits and clear some of the old.
cheers
Richie

Pedro do something completely outside your comfort zone......set yourself a challenge.
Pick two or three figures and go for vignette with a highly detailed scenic base.
As Ritchie says research and study the period and subject as you go along, this works well for me and it means that I learn a bit about an area I didn't previously know.

I get periods of hot flushes, fungal infections and fluid retention occasionally but I'm sure that's got more to do with my hormones than my painters block.
But it's quite similar really. The doctor can't help you with it ,it's just a matter of waiting till the rash goes away and the swelling goes down ,which it will, then you'll be fine to paint again.

Pedro, seems the cure is simple, you need to sleep with Bobs wife! Well it worked for him

How about something off the cuff, a space marine or something unrelated to anything you have done before Si Fi, western, pirate just something different, .....Oh I forgot, to help you recover completely just send me all your figures!

Mark, know what you are talking about mate you are either pregnant or you have thrush""""""""""LOL

I get the same feeling, a dark sinister force is keeping me out.
Once you make it thru the door Find some good tunes clean of your bench, clean out your stuff, think WTF was I thinking when I bought that.
Admire your grey army some more.
It may take a few attempts but it usually work me.

All the best
Paul

Hi!

Some good ideas here. Thank you all for your advise, much appreciated.
I will search for inspiration doing something different.

Pedro.

With me it was "mild" depresssion after my dad passed away. Nothing sucks creativity and interest in hobbies and life in general like depression. And I didn't even know I had it although everyone around me did. Every time I get a sniff of that devil I pick up a brush or sculpting tool and bull forward. Even if I don't like what I am doing the juices begin to flow and I am good. Ain't going back there again. Good luck.

In 2007 I got divorced and landed with around 17k of debt by the ex-wife. About six months later I was made redundant............ I too lost all interest in hobbies and pretty much everything else. Everyone could see it was depression except me but the world keeps turning and life couldn't be better now. Looking back I can see it clearly but not when it was happening and like you Colin, I aint going there again! :stop:

That's well put Colin, I've been there myself but find it very difficult to 'force it' though. I have a long list of unfinished projects as testimony to that.
But whenever the inspiration, motivation and the right planets are aligned for creative output I go like stink and paint figures, canvases and the town.
Glad to hear it's working for you......you've certainly created some beautiful work lately....cheers.

Don, I know I'm not pregnant cause the rabbit just got bloat and I don't have a thrush but I've got a budgie......no it's just the Manopuase I'm afraid.

Pedro:

I'm with Colin. A short break is good for burnout but don't leave it too long. I stopped for almost two years while working on home renos and promotional exams. Trouble is I'm still finding it tough to sit down and get back at it. I was never prolific in my production before (maybe 4 figures a year) but I'm lucky if I'm get one finished. Now back to the grey army:happy:

Hi all!

Last night I grabbed my tools and some MS and start work in a new groundwork. It is almost finished, when done I will posting here for you to see.
Thank you all!

Pedro
