Some progress on the Cuirassier Officer. I’ve done the jacket and cuirass lining in oils. The white trim to the red lining is just in undercoat at present. I’ve made a start on the Cuirassier and helmet metal work. The metallics are W&N oils. I added a touch of ivory black and French Ultramarine blue to the silver as a base and then in the areas of shade I added small amounts of pure Ivory black which was blended in. The highlights were pure silver but I will probably go back at these when the cuirass is dry. The epaulettes will probably also get a dark wash once the silver is dry to pick out the detail a little more.
Some progress on the US Airborne bust. I’ve opted for a slightly greener/khaki colour for the paratroopers jump jacket after researching the item on this forum, the internet and some of my own reference books (Spearhead series 82nd Airborne which contains some colour photos of the period and re-enactor’s uniforms and Phillip Katcher’s The American Soldier). What quickly became clear was that the colours were open to interpretation and not as hard and fast as might be expected. I’ve painted the jacket in oils which are still drying. The webbing is undercoated in acrylic Vallejo Russian Uniform WWII and the leather shoulder holster in Humbrol enamel. The helmet was basecoated with Humbrol 30 and the scrim painted in various Vallejo and Humbrol tans and green then some dry brushing on the netting and a first wash of Burnt Umber oil paint to dirty it up a bit.
