My next endeavor will be a two figure scene that Kreston Peckham wanted me to do years ago. His idea and not mine.

Two soldiers - a German and the other could be British, French or US fighting to the death in one on one combat. Both are in gas masks. One is on top of the other, one knee over one of the enemy's arms, with a hand weapon coming down to kill the enemy. The other is underneath doing his best to defend. Actually the two soldiers could be Russian:German - Italian:Austrian - etc. I've chosen a British PH gas mask and a German early Drager gas mask, so that part is done.

Here's the question for Kreston and all of you - Who is bottom? Who is top?

Opinions, please? Comments?

All the best,
Dan

Hello Dan, This action packed scene that you are planning sounds very interesting. I have a few questions; Are these two figures wearing coats? Are the heads w/gas masks, going to be separate? Will there equipment be separate? And, are you taking the scene from a photo, or painting? If the heads are separate, along with there equipment, and wearing coats, then it should (in my opinion) be up to the modeler to decide who is getting the upper hand. In the great photo that Marc posted, the figures could have been switched. I guess my first question should have been: Are these two figures going to be commercially available? or are they a one-of? Either way, I think its a great concept, you may have something here. If I had to choose, who was on top, I'll play it safe and choose the winner. A great idea Dan, I'm interested to see how this turns out. Regards, SG:)(y)

Steve, Marc and SG - Many thanks for your suggestions and thoughts! Yes, Marc - I remember Marijn van Gils great scene. What a talented young guy! Whatever happened to him? If memory serves, with Marijn's scene there was only one gas mask and they were fighting over it for survival. In the scene which Kreston originally came up with, it's a lot more 'down and dirty'. I hope to be able to convey all the desperation of Marijn's scene!

Steve - As a self-confessed Anglophile I suppose I'm leaning that way myself. But it's just interesting to consider the options...

SG - Great questions and ideas! It isn't planned as a commercial piece. I can see how it would have some attraction as one. I don't think your idea of just making the heads and equipment interchangeable would work because the uniforms were much too different.

For this piece, I would be willing to do it as a commission or sell it later if someone wants it. This hasn't got much to do with the money, frankly, I'm just not a collector. I have too many of my pieces on my shelves now. For me the fun is in the making and everything else is not so interesting.

Back to work.

All the best,
Dan
