I dont think your wife's comment or sense of humour was weird or anything. In fact it is rather expected.

I wouldnt expect someone outside the hobby to go straight to the point and say, I like this type of resin, oh it is a hollow cast, the mould lines are ok with this one, or the folds come across naturalistic enough.

9 out of 10 times, the remark is random, general, and mostly one of appreciation (cos they are easily impressed).
