Probably this will be posted toward the U.S contingent of the site.

Access to 1/1 scale weapons is a major problem in the U.K due to the very tight firearms laws, airsoft is about as dangerous as it gets :)

I was wondering who has access or maybe a collection of weapons that I can call on for specific details questions, measurements etc and detail pictures.

Would be looking at ww1, ww2, wild west and even older muskets etc.

trolling the internet leaves me short sometimes with specific details.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve,
I know someone connected with the Heugh Battery (WW1) I believe they have a decommisioned arsenal, I can ask if I can get in for a look. Just let me know. I was also thinking of venturing to our Historic Key and doing the same.(this is the Nepoleonic period). I know they have a swordsmiths & gunsmiths. Also both places are full of re-enactors.
Let me know if you want specifics mate.
cheers
Richie

Geoff, I had forgotten about Leeds Armoury, thanks for the reminder

Richie, will keep that in mind mate, reenactor events are my only source for getting hands on with weapons.

Grant, Cheers mate might need some good pics on modern stuff soon

Sam, Much appreciated,

Thanks all,

Steve

Steve - From my rare attempts to make weapons, I understand this problem. It's possible to do a lot with high quality photos but real accuracy requires measurements of the various pieces of the weapon.

I have a British SMLE which I'd be happy to make measurements of and send them along. I sent you my e-mail address earlier. If this would be helpful, let me know and specifically what measurements you need.

More a question than a solution, but...

Are there any PF members living in Kansas City, MO, who could contact the curator of the US First World War museum and possibly discuss making measurements of some of the rarer weapons they have? I know they have both the Hotchkiss and Madsen LMGs for example. I've contacted the curator about this and, of course, he was pretty reluctant to grant access, but perhaps if someone was to cultivate a relationship....

Living in Omaha, I'm just too far away to do this myself.

All the best,
Dan

Dan many thanks for the offer of pictures of the SMLE, that weapon is on my `to do list`, will be in touch mate,

Steve
