I am curious I have seen most (if not all) figures with heraldry on shields and tunics highlighted and shaded would that have been accurate back in medieval days. To make myself more clear I often see a fleur d'ly painted beautifully to make it look three dimensional is that how they were originally painted?

I dont see that as artistcly but more like a choice of style. Some want their shine knights in lovely heraldry and bright colours while others want them dull and weary.

Although I have my own likings its up to each figureteer.

On the other hand I think its ok to do something artistly even as it is inaccurate. Ive seen several examples of that. But you cant get away with to much or bizar inaccurcies depending on the audiences knowledge. Dont ever claim it to be accurate if you know otherwise.
