Hi guys

does anyone know of any companies that make decent clear acrylic display covers (boxes)...preferably custom made and hopefully not too expensive!

Haven’t got space for a proper cabinet at the moment, so trying find an alternative to protect my finished stuff.

kind regards

Kev

Not sure if it's of help Kev, but you can buy Acrylic sheet pieces (Perspex) cut to size from a company called MDP supplies.
It's easy to get a good strong clear joint using a glue called Tensol which might make building your own a practical option?

Cheers

Thanks Paul

I did think about trying to make something myself, but couldn’t find a reasonably priced supplier. I’ve had a quick look at MDP and think I’m going to give them a try.

Thanks for your help, it’s very much appreciated.

Kind regards

Not sure which country you are in but there should be multiple supplier. Google for display cases and you’ll find them. Standard size is most affordable, but many do custom sized. I ordered one for my recent dinosaur diorama and paid around €60 (40x40x30 cm, l/w/h). Not cheap, but also not outrageous and it will keep the dust out forever.

Thanks Adrian, I’m in the UK. I have looked at standard sizes on Google, but they do limit your choice. I think I’m going to plumb for custom and I’m getting lots of help with UK supplier.

Thanks again

Ouch Steve! That’s still a bit steep.....I’d only checked out a relatively small one 65 x 65 x 125 and it still came out to over £20. When you have to lay out for the solvent adhesive too, I dread to think how much it would cost to cover all my stuff. I’m not even going to go there. ( lol)...... one step at a time as they say!

Good luck!

If you factor in the time to measure, mark out and cut the material, prepare the edges, set up and glue the acrylic, check measurements and fit, apply framing, (if needed), then clean and polish, the cost equates, depending on time and size, to a day's work. If you also take into account purchase of materials, electricity, then you can appreciate how the cost stacks up. (y)

Yep, your totally right , i didn't think it was that bad, as it includes P&P. Next months investment.

“Investment”, I like that word!......if I try it out on the wife, do you think she’ll be supportive.....! (Lol)

Normally all my completed bits and bobs go in the cabinet, but my wife is so impressed with this one, its allowed out on public display, but I said it would have to be in a case as no way was it getting dusty, or knocked. :D
