My new project. Sometimes I get tired of painting busts. Then I have to make smaller dioramas and 54 mm is the best scale for them.

Figures are from ICM and a few MB.

15 figures at all.

Almost all figures are converted to match the later pose in the diorama.

A first setup to see how it looks. Some details to be changed later.

Another view.

After the first coat of primer the parts that still need sanding are better to see.

The base from styropor, balsawood and putty. For coloring bases I use colored chalk. I like the result better than acrylic colors and it is easier and cheaper.

My first attempt was to paint all trousers, all faces, all jackets, all weapons etc. etc.
After all I changed my mind and paint each figure from the beginning to the end. The first two soldiers in the middle are almost finished.
This way is better, I guess, cause you pay more attention to the single figure.

I will keep you updated here, hope you like what you see.

Cheers Robert

Hi Robert

What's this " tired of painting busts " ...lol

This is a great project and certainly progressing well , some nice conversions on the figures

Will you have any flags ?

Groundwork looks good

Is the diorama based on a particular incident or picture reference ?

Following with interest

Happy benchtime

Hi Nap,

I still love painting busts :D

Not thought about flags so far. Will consider it.

The diorama is based on images in my head from the many many films I have seen about this war. Since I was a boy I am interested in the ACW.

Films like Gettysburg, Glory and even Horse soldiers with John Wayne are inspiration enough.

No special place, battle or unit. Just a small cutout of how it could have been.

Today's progress:

I am not satisfied with the faces so far, but every figure will have some more work to do, before it finds its way into the diorama.

Cheers

I just found out at my favourite dealer that there will be another set available in June or July.

These four figures would fit perfectly to my diorama, which means I will not be in any hurry to finish it, before I can add the additional set.

Next weekend I will show You the progress so far.

Cheers
Robert
