Oh man. I already don't 'get' orcs, but this is just...weird and awkward...

I get them. I've even painted one (the Fer Miniatures "Norse Orc Hero" bust).

But I think that we're starting to see orc overkill now, with sculptors / companies falling over each other to see what subject they can turn into an orc next. This just strikes me as a lame and schoolboy-ish (some would say tasteless) attempt to push the envelope and maybe court a bit of controversy along the way. I doubt we'll be seeing many of these on the competition tables, but no doubt they'll flog a few. Not to me though.

I'm sure a lot of effort goes into sculpting but this for me is in bad taste, sad that talent such as this has been wasted. After all there's a world full of suitable subjects out there for talented sculptors.
Sad in so many ways. John

I have never been comfortable with Nazi subjects in the hobby and will never have them in my collection anyway. But I think we need to distinguish between different representations of controversial subjects in miniatures. One thing is creating flattering images, like Andrea’s Hitler http://www.andreadepotusa.com/en/1/...i-1939-1945/692/s5-f43-party-leader-1935.html or those mediocre Putin busts that recently appeared on PF. Another thing is mocking them. There is an established tradition of ridiculing Hitler in pop culture, from Chaplin’s The Great Dictator all the way to The Fifth Element. This bust clearly falls into this category and does not glorify Nazism.

Best wishes,

Sergei

@ Sergei: I'm not saying that I agree or disagree, but that is one way of looking at it. Only the sculptor knows what the actual thinking behind it was.

Hi Steve,

You are of course correct that nobody can speak on behalf of the sculptor. However, I think the difference between Andrea’s figure and Adolforc is obvious. By the way, if Hitler alone is not enough, Andrea also has the whole gang in all the pomp (see The Fürher's Cross-Country Car on their website, I can insert neither working link nor image into my message for some reasons). Now this is what I call adoration. To give them a credit, Andrea does The Great Dictator too.

Best wishes,
Sergei

Hi Sergei, I've read the comments in this thread and I understand your viewpoint, everyone of course has the right to like or unlike any miniature its a personal choice as to which we purchase.
As I said in my comment early I feel this Orc bust is in bad taste and in my opinion while it's well sculpted it's a sad waste of the sculptors talent.
I like yourself find nazi figures very distasteful I don't have or would never consider having anything of this nature in my collection , I can never understand why a well respected company like Andrea miniature's and indeed other company's see it necessary to produce figures of Hitler and his cohorts ,I understand it's history but what will we see next miniatures of some other despot. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think it should ever be forgotten the death and absolute devastating pain these people inflicted on the world. For me we must always remember the victim's of the holocaust and the many brave servicemen and women who gave their lives for us to live in a free world. I don't won't to offend anyone this I my personal opinion .....John.

does any one remember the bullfighter model that andrea did a few years ago, that left me feeling a little uncomfortable, not something i would do but thats the choice we have
