Advice On Painting Feathers Needed

Here is the situation. I have a large pirate bust I'm painting but I have no clue about how to paint feathers at all. I've watched a few Youtube videos but they are not really what I'm after especially with painting brighter colours. Can anyone offer any advice or tips?

Hi Pete,
I don't understand why a feather would be a problem, it just requires a base colour then shading and highlights like a tunic or hair.
Is there a specific part of the process you are struggling with?

Hi Bill. I guess it would be the transitions between colours I'm most worried about. Maybe I thinking about it too much.
