I've been in this hobby now about 5 months, and my interest (and grey army) continues to grow. Not to be morbid, but, we all invest a lot of time and money and most of all ourselves into this. I'd hate to think mine would end up in some cheap yard sale after I'm gone  So I'm looking at who in my family would like to have them.
What will happen to yours?

Mary

They'll be with me in my Grand Mausoleum that I'm going to have built so that I can take them with me to the Afterlife!!

Seriously though I calculated that at my current rate of finishing models I have roughly 20 years worth of stuff in the stash. So as I'm still only in my 40s I'm hoping that I still have the time (and the dexterity, the vision, the sufficiently steady hands etc.) to finish it all. But of course that assumes that nothing more will be added to said stash over the next 20 years ... which is an utterly ludicrous notion.

So I'm hopeful that cloning technology will come on in leaps & bounds over the next few years so that I'll be able to clone myself several times over in order to do 'em all!!

Taken care of for the first generation. I am currently under a "no selling the soldiers order" as each of my 5 kids want several when I go to the happy workbench in the sky. If I can get my productivity up when I retire I may be able to actually be allowed sell a few and boost my pension.

But the kids have a veto, as does my controlling shareholder (aka wife).

I'll probably have them auctioned off and dedicate the proceeds to those who have served like help for heroes or something:)

Will probably combine both, will be killed by being crushed to death when the pile of unmade kits fall on me..

Would be nice to see them going to someone who would appreciate them.. Trouble is most folks who will be tasked with disposing of them will look at a kit and remember when as kids they used to buy them for pocket money prices, and be totally unaware that those days are well and truly gone.

I have already had a couple of experiences along this theme (no I am not a zombie and havent died myself yet) but I have helped the families of modelling buddies who have died and I have sold off unmade kits either here through the forum or at shows.Me being around helped them extremely, because they didnt have a clue what the kits were worth.I remember the wife of one deceased modeller was offered 300 euros for his stash from a trader here in Germany, she asked my advice and I told her she was beeing robbed.I put together a list for her and subsequently sold off the collection for over 6.000 euros !! Some difference huh ????
This is why I would advise everyone to make up a list listing each kit and the price paid at time of purchase.I also have one for my painted figures with an estimate of what I guess the figure is worth. That way our widows will have an easier time.

The ultimate and cold hard truth

Five words "It doesn't matter your dead!" :sneaky:

It took a long time for me to realize this. I am looking at my huge grey army as I write this. Man my collection is really cool!!!!!!;)

Sure your final wishes could be followed or you could have a will that takes care of it. Relatives/beneficiaries could sell them if they need money after your gone (just make sure the government doesn't get the money (y)). By all means someone, somewhere in the world would want and enjoy them.

But....your gone so it doesn't matter.

So enjoy "the Hell," out of them now! :)
They make you happy!!! That's why you bought them. :awesome:

Now everyone stop worrying and get back to modeling!!!!

Right on Todd!!!!
I'm with you... Now, back to the bench to chip away at the grey army. It really is a battle of attrition, except the grey army keeps getting reenforcements... I do not. Guess we know who will win this war:rolleyes:

Keep on keepin' on

I know a few members who may just want to dive into my pile, after or even before I have gone, just to find any good stuff.

I have told enough people, if I stop buying figures and paint every day for eight hours I cant finish my present pile until three weeks after I die!

The boys know where they are and as I doubt I will be painting them they can have what they want. I do hope no one wins a best of show with something I didnt paint, that would be a shocker!

Those who die with the most toys are dead......
When's the estate sale?

My wife will sell it off and give the proceeds to German Shepherd Rescue.

I have been involved in several friend's estate sales and it was a mess. After the last nightmare I took the time to enter over 1,000 kits into a computer inventory with what I paid for them as well as over 400 painted figures and what their value is conservatively. When a kit arrives by mail I first enter it into the inventory as well as when I sell or trade a kit it gets taken out of the inventory.

When a collector comes to the house I also remove from the inventory what he has purchased.

After almost 40 years in this hobby I feel it has spun into 2 separate hobbies.

1. Painting figures
2. Collecting kits

I wanted to make it easier on the Mrs when my expiration date comes up to be able to dispose of the kits and not get taken advantage of.
