Hi guys,
It's been awhile since I posted, school and work have been in the way. You know how that goes. Anyway, I ordered an Airborne Miniatures figure from Colorado Miniatures back in September. It came two days ago and it was worth the wait. The figure is the 1/16 modern US Force Recon Marine. Here's a quick review of it.
The figure comes in a blue box about 6.5 inches long. Inside you will find a base that resembles the rocky, mountain terrain of Afghanistan and a resealable bag of resin parts. There are a lot of parts in the bag, so many that I haven't bothered to count them. The figure breaks down into two legs, boots, two torsos, head, hands, four arms, three hands, and plenty of accessories. These include a variety of grenade and ammo pouches, night vision device, butt pack, four water bottles, handgun in thigh holster and the M4 carbine. The gun itself is cast in several pieces, as you have the option of one with the m203 grenade launcher or one without. The right hand is casted with the trigger piece and center section of the gun, with seperate magazine. There are two left hands, one with the barrel and grenade launcher part, or the closed fist around the grip. If you choose not to use the grenade launcher, then there is a seperate barrel. The muzzle and stock are both seperate pieces, as well as the aiming device.
There are two sets of arms and two torsos, which one you use depends on how you build the gun, as one torso is for grenade pouches. The kit also includes a pair of gloves that seem to be tucked in the belt, two flexcuffs, and a clear piece of plastic for the goggles. Casting is excellent, and there are no heavy seams that will have to be removed. There were a few air bubbles on the back of the helmet, but this should be easy to fix. The only drawback is that there are no instructions included in the kit, which maybe a problem for those of us who aren't experts on modern US gear, due to the large amount of small parts. All in all, a very nice figure that should be a joy to build up and paint.
I would also like to thank Gray for carrying these figures and get them out as quickly as he could.
