Hi all
I was saddened to hear today that Airfix has gone into liqudation. Airfix has been a big part of my life. And I (like many others) will feel sad to see the end of a childhood and lifelong friend.

Hi All

Sad news. Can't remember the last time I bought an airfix or humbrol product but it was always a comfort factor knowing it was there. Definitely good time now to buy any of those multipose or other figure kits you think you might need. Some of the reports suggest that the moulds/tools rest with heller who are themselves in receivership so it could take some time for any form of recovery.

Regards

Geoff

Confirmation was given this morning that Airfix have now gone into liquidation, very sad news

Yeah, that´s very sad... My youth was filled with Airfix Kits and figures... Remember the Tarzan Set, Robin Hood, the Beduins, Foreign Legion, Animal Sets, all that 1:76 Military Kits, the Dinosaurs, Birds, James Bonds Nelly Copter, the cool and rare Car Models and and and.... One can only hope, that all the originals of the box designs and the moulds are safe.

Sure, the detailing was not to todays standarts, but the whole collection, the charme and the memories of that stuff will remain. Farewell Airfix...

Frank :(

Hi again

After reading of Airfix's demise it made me realise how often I could remember the time, day, moment even when I bought certain kits. People sometimes say how particular music brings back a moment from the past, with me I know it's certain Airfix kits, particulary the "HO/OO" tanks and figures.

Regards

Geoff

It is sad..... thousands of 1/72 scale poly figures had pointless wars in front of the Banana Splitz and Champion the Wonder Horse on a saturday morning.......sigh

But Airfix just didn't seem to know what they were supposed to be over the last 10+ years - other plastics companies have moved on, not re-issuing old stuff in new boxes (not that it was bad, but even the excellent multipose figures have dated.......)

As mentioned, Airfix had their chances, and did not move forward properly, to meet the efforts of their competitors. Yeah, there were a very few gems in there, but, in the end, most of what they had done recently was reissue 30 year old kits at current rates. I hope that a few of the kit molds do get picked up, but, I'm not holding my breath on it.....

I read in one of this morning's newspapers that UK toy company Hornby(scale model railways and trains etc) were looking at putting a rescue package together for Airfix.
You never know - there maybe hope for them yet :)

Definitely the end of an era. As a boy I was addicted to their HO scale figures (who wasn't). I managed to get a box almost everytime My Mom or Grandparents went to the five and dime that carried them.~Gary
