Well this is an interesting thread
David,
I think you need to address the way you approach things ....everyone is entitled to their thoughts ..but Carl a "fairly decent sculptor" ...I think not .
...I see you have apologised to Carl now ...should have been no need to do that in the first place ...why not put this thread into the context it should be ..you reworking a very good sculpt to your thoughts .

Well I'm sorry Napoleon but I think he is a pretty decent sculptor! ( for us northerners that's a euphemism for bob on)
I"ve done summat different here, but I think that's what modelling is about - realising your own vision.

It is and had it been presented better you probably would have got due feedback.
As it is I think Carl held back pretty well, considering you slated his work as an introduction.
Last time you posted you stated all PF members were elite and mostly self indulgent and you were a humble beginner, then listed your trophies
Then you come back with a heading on how to improve on Carls sculpting.
I just don't get it nor the innocence and light hearted nature you then justify it with.
And yes I am stood firmly in Carls corner.

Now I'm not having a go at Carl at all. Everyone knows he's at the top of his game. I admit this was a bit of ( ill considered ) fun. I'm a bad man - what can I say, when I guessed Carl was a bit hurt by my silly mischief, I went into reverse gear! I thought it was funny, and then realised most won't see it that way.
Now, it does link into my earlier post sort of acknowledged by some other replies I have received, that PF is becoming a site where the big guns get some advertising space and its all a bit self congratulatory! Now that's open for debate- but I hope you can see that I have been prepared to put my own stuff up to be shot down and not just taking sly snipes from the side lines.
I don't post here much so, if you like, you can dismiss this. I'm really into modelling, but fortunately nothing rides on it for me, so I can just shoot from the hip and say it how it is...

I am however compelled to defend my client base!
I merely asked what your motivation for this post was!
As for your one man crusade to change the philosphy of this forum, Why! What gives you the right?
Do you really believe that open warfare and conflict is the best way to improve? Or is it that you what be able to attack the "elite" as you call them?
You dont have to create hostility to improve!

but I'm getting a lot of 'likes' and one or two followers since I ventured out here, so yous know I'm not just some idiot who is talking ( cr**).
I bet if I was talking to Carl direct, he would say, ' yeah Dave, not my best, but its my job and I rap em out to time limits when required- and no one would thing anything any the worse of me!' He's good, I don't say otherwise, nobody is Uber good all the time- so what's the problem!

I've met and spoken with Carl on numerous occasions, he's an OK guy, very talented and promotes our hobby with enthusiasm.
David I would just like to point out my observation of the fact that Carl's rendition of AB's face has him smiling ( no more drunk puns please)
and your reference photo and sculpt has him grim faced. Anatomy and facial exspression?

You see David, this is the point!
If you would have offered your work up, folks would have commented accordingly. You would been offered advice and help to do with what you saw fit.
But you didn't! Your opening gambit was an attack!
What do you expect to happen? People to blow smoke up your ass like your post on another forum?
As for the ear! You can't see if the position of the ear!
Why didn't you just move the ear, if you felt it was in the wrong place?
I must have sculpted in excess of 100 pieces since this piece, I can barely remember it!
My adivise to you, for what its worth.
Rethink your approach to people and forums.
Shed your self proclaimed arrogance.
Gather as much information from as many sculptors as you can, and hone your skills quietly, asking for adbise along the way!
As for sculpting.
You have a good basic abilty that requires some refining, that takes time, patience and effort!
There are plenty of great on here that will help you, but most will shy away from giving any help while you bring this attitude to the table!
