Whats the Grampa scam John
Ron,
The Grandpa scam is as follows.
They call and when you answer they say "hello Grandpa how are you. If they are lucky you say " Hello Jimmie how are you?" Now they pretend to be Jimmie. They give you a sob story that they are in jail and need cash for bail. Or they are stuck in some country "Mexico" and need funds because the return ticket is so much money and somone in the Hotel stole their cash? Can you wire money or Get a cash card and they will call back for the card No. Ect: I did not give them our grandsons name so they did not know it. This time they were at a funeral of a friend in Florida killed by a drunk driver. An Aunt paid for their ticket there but she could not afford the return trip. Finally I I ask who he was and he gave a name I did not recognize but my last name. Since I work with my son three days a week I would have known about the funeral if there was one? Once I said that I did not know him he hung up. The number on the phone ID was "Unavailable" Clue Number one.
A lot of these scams get written up in a magazine sent to Senior Citizens from an organization here called AARP. The organization looks out for the elderly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers
John
