Die Walküre
75mm - white metal

I have now received this form Steve Kirtley at S.K.Miniatures, Alexandros 75mm Die Walküre
History:
In German Mythology, the Valkyrie is "The one who selects" (Kyrja is the deriviative of the verb Kjósa, "Choose") the warriors fallen in battle (Varl) to take them to Valhöll or Walhalla, the dwelling of the gods, where they reside until the great confrontation with Ragnarök, or the end of the world.
According to some sources, the Valkyries were 9 sisters, daughters of the gods Odin and Erda, the Earth; They are represented as young virgins with beautiful faces, resplendant white arms and golden hair which they wore long and flowing; They wore a helmet and armour of silver or gold, with white tunics like the snow or blood red. They bore great shields and shining lances.
Messengers of Odin (Or Wotan), their presence on the battlefield anounced to the hero (Einherier) the immenance of his death. When the fallen received the kiss from the Valkyrie, they were hoisted onto their mounts and taken at the gallop in a flash of lightning to the antechamber of Asgard of Walhalla. There the warriors lived in a multitudinous banquet together with gods, until the announcement of the final battle in the field of Vigrid, the place where they were destined to succumb to the armies of darkness; the twilight of the gods.
The Valkyrie who we represent is inspired by a fragment of Richard Wagner's Opera "Die Walküre", the first part (after the Prologe "Das Rheingold") of the Tetralogy "Der Ring des Nibelungen".
To be precise the figure represents Brünnhilde, the younger of the sisters and favourite of her father Wotan, in the fourth scene of the second act of the said Opera (The scene of the Revelation), where she appears to the warrior Siegmund to announce his end.
The Kit:
This figure comes in a protective box with all parts sandwiched between two layers of foam, the box art has a very fine rendition of this figure painted by Alexandre Cortina Bonastre.
The figure consists of 13 white metal parts and a piece of brass rod for the spear shaft. A close inspection of the parts shows excellent detail with high level of casting and minimal cleanup, test fitting of all parts shows no evidence of any filler being used on any of the joints.
Here we can see the main torso of the figure and the high level of detail of the scale armour and other features.
Another picture of the main torso with the cloak and hair which attaches to the back of the head and cloak, again showing high level of detail.
The bottom of the cloak has an embossed sculpted boarder pattern
A test fit of the cloak to the main torso shows an excellent fit.
The face/head on this figure shows very nice sharp detail
Location of the head is an excellent fit dropping straight into place with a snug fit with the main torso and cape.
Test fitting of the hair piece. This then locks onto the cloak and holds everything in place.
Here we can see the mythological wings on the helmet, again fitting is good.
