Hi David,

I love the stippled effect on the hat and the skin tones on the face. I think the eye balls could do with a catch-light, or a glaze of gloss lacquer to bring out the sheen.

Hey Dave, I have this figure primed for almost a year, but with what you have done here, I think I'll move him into the consideration category ... great job thusfar on the face.. what type of oils are you using? Oil mixes? Again, great work mate!

Thanks Steve, this is a great little figure, simple but full of character. The colours used in the face are Mars Orange WN, Flesh Ochre OH,Brown Madder R,Naples Yellow Pale WN,Sepia Extra OH,Warm Sepia OH.All these colours are used in small areas on the face, but not applied as a mix.Hope this is of some help.

Cheers David

Great little figure, saw it painted in a show report in Figurines an issue or 2 back, listed as a Texas Alamo Fighter, which I guess it could be with almost no changes.

Wonderful technique on the face David. Are you diluting the oils at all or right from the tube ?

Thanks Richard for your kind comments. Some of the oils are slightly thinned ,others are straight from the tube but in very small quantities. The way I paint the face is to work in small areas with minimal blending at the transitions.Hope this is of some help.

Cheers David

David, I really like your fleshtones. And you're using oils? Good! There are a few of us left. What, if you don't mind, colours are you using on your palette, and in particular the 5 o'clock shadow.
John

David, you are doing a great job with this figure,
Besides the wonderful face painting you have put an interesting texture effect in the hat.
I painted this figure some time ago. After all, I live in Saragossa! So the subject is nothing "exotic" to me.
The sculpture is really oustanding.
I enclose some pics of some of the scars that you can see in the city of those days of hard house to house fighting. This year is just the 200th aniversary of the second siege.

Thanks David for your comments, the colours I used are on page 3 of this thread.I think the stubble is Sepia. Thanks Diego for for your very kind words and the fantastic photos, I have saved them to my photo album for reference when painting the groundwork.

Cheers David
